The point, quite obviously, was that proving oneself at Fulham, Reading or Brentford is no indication of being any good at United, Barcelona or Bayern Munich, so what would be the point? Also, the words you were looking for were 'back to basics'.
Well he proved himself at two small clubs, one big one and one very big one. Doing brilliantly at St Mirren wasn't much of an indication he'd be great for United eventually.
To be fair he won a lot more trophies as a player and he's won as many trophies as a manager, despite never being a manager. Any truth in the rumour that Bale, Modric, Sheringham, Carrick, Berbatov and various other ex-Spurs players have been on the blower to Poch to tell him not to waste too much time at Spurs as it's possible to win trophies at big clubs?
I don't think he was sucking off the apprentice, HIAG. They're completely unrelated roles and football is a unique industry. Being on the coaching staff at a huge club is probably a better apprenticeship nowadays than trying to run Barnet.
You're not the only Manc to harbour a fervent desire to steal Poch from us, Stan. I can understand your jealousy and bitterness. It's been a very, very long time since United actually produced any of its own stars, and it's become an ingrained habit to rob rival clubs that can do these things far better than you. The problem you have, though, Stan, is that United (saddled, as it is, with huge debts and standing in the deep shadow of a far stronger local rival) is no longer the stella club that it used to be. Sure, you're going to get the likes of Scholes and Robson banging on about "everyone wants to play for United; we're the biggest club in't world!" but we all know that's a complete and utter load of bollocks, and has been for some while. The truth is, other clubs take your best players off you, these days - it's not the other way round. You've tried to tap quite a few players by using your usual trick of getting Murdoch's hacks to run a fabricated story about "United being interested in [insert name of player]" and every time it's come back a blank. Surely, even a clown like you must be able to see that United's glory days have faded, Stan?
Oh, I'm sure it's great work, if you can get it, Watford! As I say, I'd love nothing more than for Giggs to get the job, so that he can prove one of us right.
Nice essay. Poch isn't ready to manage a big club. The way he set his team up to bottle the Liverpool game shows he has a lot to learn. He's got potential but is as naive as Rodgers when it comes to trying to challenge for a trophy.
I doubt he'd be any good either but getting League Two players to play slightly above their level is no more an indicator he would be than sitting glumly on a bench watching those who have done it in the past.
To me, it's as clear as day that Giggs is being set up as "the Wonder Boy" who is gonna fail big time! I have no personal grievance against Giggs (as some neutrals seem to); I even rated him highly as a player. But I really do think that he's going to go the way of every other United "legend" who has tried to manage in the Prem, and end up being a half-decent mid-table team coach, but always failing to win the biggest prizes.
With an experienced assistant to support him I think he could potentially manage the club he's been at for over 25 years. He'd also have his uncle Fergie to turn to for advice.
Naive!!...Playing away is all very well, but if you're caught it blights your career. What Giggs did repulsed alot of people, why should he get away with it by getting the United job?
acb, you've got this all wrong, mate. Let Giggs get the United job. Yes, he'll be great at playing away, but he'll be useless at home!
