But to be serious.....if you wanted to bet on who would win the league at the start of a season, it is very unlikely that the best historical period to use as a statistical indicator would exactly match the previous season. I don't have enough data (or indeed time) to do the analysis but I suspect the information ratio would peak somewhere in the 50 to 100 match range. The data might well be improved by mixing in Cup results too but that would definitely create noise as well as information.
The only data needed from a Chelsea perspective is to factor in this years European games. Having not played in them last year, our squad has far more depth and quality than Spurs have yet for me it is not enough to win both. This will need the players to get used to playing away and only having one day to prepare for some games.
You got 50 PL points last time you were in the CL and 93 last time you were not. I think the 43 difference is probably an over-estimate of the real effect! But it's things like this that make me think last year's table isn't a very good guide and more sophisticated analysis is needed.
There's no analysis that will change results, using the Mourinho losing the dressing room year is a red herring and you would have better spent your time picking another year.
We also had a completely different side then We no longer have Ivanovic, Terry, Oscar, Costa, Remy, Matic or Falcao Infact the only guaranteed starters from that XI still playing for us are Courtois, Hazard, Azpi and Willian. (Cahill is slowly being fazed out, thank god!)
Omitting the Mourinho losing the dressing room year the points are 93 last season & 87 in 14/15 plus 86 in 09/10 just a seven point difference over the three years we were champions.
Because it was an artificial result as Jose had lost the dressing room and it wasn't a true reflection on the years I quoted as we all know withouth the special one cocking up a blinding squad we would have done infinitely better.
Yes Im aware of that but for the exercise is wasn't a true example of the squads ability given the circumstances.
Tells the whole story mate just seven points difference between being in Europe and Not being in Europe.
FFS - I'm not trying to change history, I'm trying to find the best set of historical data to predict the future. If it shows Chelsea are fantastic and Spurs are **** then that will be fine.
