Steve Deere played before Steve Richards, the notorious pairing you are thinking of was Steve Richards/Stuart Ecclestone
5 pages in and no one has mentioned ibrahima sonko.....30 000 weekly reasons why he deserves a nomination! Hately it is for me though, in terms of expectation, promise and the initial sheer delight to be rid of Dolan, we thought he was going to be the saviour, he sadly proved to be ****ing useless not only as a player but also as a manager, doubly useless
Danny Coles shouldn't be on here, he kept Turner out the team for a while and it was only after the mare he had at Ipswich that he fell apart. I forgot about Sonko, he's definitely our worst ever Premier League player.
Didn't he score the winner in our first premier league game? Surely that alone excludes him from this list. Set up by Craig ***an who is also on this list. There have been many worse than these two.
You are right - it was Ecclestone - my fading memory is betrayng my age Anyway - all 3 were much worse than Lewis and co. Be thankful if you didn't have to watch them play!
Chris bettney arrived on loan as an untried young winger and we threw him straight into a lone striker role in a relegation fight. Had a full season chasing shadows and managed 1 goal .... In a 1-5 loss at torquay !
He seemed to get a bit better as the season went on, I'd have thought Joy Altidore, Manucho, or Tony Warner (sorry TWF!) would have got the gong? As for way back when, I remember Jamie Wood being useless, but he can't have been that bad as he got called up for the Cayman Islands. Erm, yeah. For lack of impact, I'd go with Hope Akpan, who literally contributed nothing in that first season. But the one I'll always remember as being the worst (and probably the most pointless) is one Stevland Angus. My word.
Altidore was poor, but nowhere near the worst, Manucho gets a let off for giving me a great night out on Fulham and Warner doesn't qualify as he never actually played in a league games for us.
I'm trying to find Andy Brown's career stats to see just how crap he was and what happened to him but can't find any google evidence that he ever existed, can anyone help? I thought he left us to go to some **** Scottish club like Stenhousemuir. Oh and Simon Trevitt / Simon Dakin don't seem to have been mentioned yet.
Kin ell some of the people being nominated on here... James Harper, Caleb Folan, Jozy Altidore? Were you around in the 90s? Stuart Blampey for me, so **** he didn't even make an appearance.
Gojng back a few years Ryan Williams, Chris Lee, Craig Lawford and David Beresford really represent the low point. Anyone since then has been better and I mean anyone. These 4 are not fit to clean Junior Lewis's boots. If you're too young to remember them - think yourself lucky ! Did Beresford ever in his entire City career put in a cross that didn't finish up in the South Stand seats ?
He did win the FA Trophy with Scarborough in 1977... please log in to view this image He's bottom right, the bloke three places in(sporting the slightly Mexican tash) is Jeff Barmby.
The one that always comes to mind on thread’s like this is Nick Deacy. Brought in by Mike Smith as a Welsh International striker, but he was atrocious. It all came to a head one game after several ****e performances on the trot, and following much abuse from the stands, he was subbed just after half time to loud cheers. As he was walking off Deacy turned round and delivered a double ‘V’ sign to Kempton. After this the manager must’ve agreed that he was a ****e centre forward, as he played out the rest of his time at City as a centre back.
Hesford was about the worst and just to twist the knife we was mugged getting him..... "We will give you an England under 21 keeper for your welsh one"........ "What ! You are not interested.... What if we throw Big Billy into the deal"....... "Done"....... "You have been"!!!!!
I agree Williams was a let down from the player we thought we had signed. I always liked Beresford, seem to remember him being really quick. Poor crosser for a winger but was always an outlet when we were under pressure. He had his own song so he can't have been that bad.
