Considering our position over the last few months, Saints fans have become over-cautious. We should beat Forest, but have a tendency to ship goals lately. Stop doing that and we'll make life easier for ourselves.
Forest 2 - 1 Saints Boro 2 - 2 Burnley Donny 0 - 2 Cardiff Pompey 1 - 1 West ham Do not see us coming away with 3 points; away form is woeful. Boro keep drawing at home and Burnley are improving. Cardiff are too good for Donny and West Ham are not playing much better than us at the moment.
Saints to win at forest and Cardiff to lose after a thrilling and exhausting semi final tonight allows Donny to nick it. The skates get us a draw against west ham and Burnley hold Boro ..... we are Southampton we're still top of the league!
I like this! I agree with posters saying there not worried about other results to a certain extent, However I think its impossible not to look and think about results happening around us as this is what the league is all about and the excitement of staying ahead of the rest. The ups and downs the emotion of feeling great or depressed are based on other results after our own of course.
I'll be optimistic and go for a tight Saints win. I reckon the cup win will give us confidence to have a good performance providing we don't use the awful diamond again. You can guarantee that Gunter will try to overlap and having Fox face that on his own would be a disaster. Playing through the middle will get us nowhere, especially without the physical presence of Lambert. Their defence will go narrow and we'll get no space. We don't want to rely on pumping the ball into the box either as we won't win much aerially without Lambert. I'd suggest we play a 442 or 4411 (depending on who's available) and play around a bit to create space before playing a final ball. The likes of Guly and Connolly will score headers, but they're unlikely to win an aerial challenge with a big centre half. Doesn't matter how we do it, but we need to make maximum use of the pitch to stretch defenders and make space in the middle. I don't like to parrot Merrington, but yes we do need width.
We're going to destroy them we're a good team with quality all over the pitch, I reckon they are in no way happy with their form you could see how much the coventry winner meant to them. I think Forest will be the unlucky team to be on the recieving end our return to top form. Keep the faith I still believe we will win the league, naive? possibly still gotta be optimistic i guess. Saints 4 - Forest 0 Boro 2-0 Burnley Doncaster 1-3 Cardiff Pompey 1-1 West Ham
Just out of interest who do you see out of the top 4 the weakest and most likely to fall away? Cause I am pretty sure of the teams mentioned most supporters of other clubs in this league would probably say us.
I know there is a massive panic on with everybody including myself calling for new players etc but none of the other 3 teams have exactly been signing numerous players. Its obvious by how the league stands currently those other teams have improved but as I see it only Leicester are making reported/confirmed bids for players and I can see them having a strong second half of the season. I just have this slight niggling worry that on Saturday if we lose top position it might be a massive struggle to get it back. Momentum is key and this is why I think other teams results are of major interest to us and we would be stupid to overlook them.
The point is that after the same number of games we are top, though only on GD. The teams below us have caught up but have also been inconsistent. If we'd blown a 10 point gap it might look bad, but generally we have wavered between top by GD and top by 3 or 5 points. The main worry is that there are now a few teams in contention, whereas before it was us, West Ham and Boro. A couple of wins will change everything, but we mustn't give up if we temporarily lose top spot. COYR
Going to be a hard game again, our away form is utter ****e. Adkins needs to play 442 or some other formation with wide men. None of this narrow **** like usual. I'll be there hoping I see us win away from home and end our poor Coyr
Very jealous really wanted to go to this one alas my landlord wouldn't take the excuse of a trip to Nottingham for non payment of rent.
I'm lucky enough to have a well paid job so can afford a few treats. Been to all the away games bar Poopey. Some less fortunate can't but I'm not going judge, long as you support Saints however you can. Be it going to the match, listening to the radio, Tele Txt whatever still makes you a Saints supporter in my eyes. I don't get the I'm better then you ****e some people say just because they go to matches
I have only missed two home games and been away to Reading, Leicester, Coventry and the most depressing Doncaster! Midweek games are always hard for me not living in the city but I always do my best to go as much as possible. But like as you said I have friends who don't attend any games but do buy shirts and listen out on the radio,As long as when asked "who do you support?" The reply is "Southampton F.C" their immediately my friend lol
It's about time we drop a place! We have been lucky for way too long... Hopefully it'll give the players a kick purge backside!
You might have a very good point here mate! However I just worry that once were removed from top stop it might have a negative effect more than positive! I hope your right though
Ye I'm hoping for the same. Obviously if someone had offered you the choice of being top at new year then you would have said yes without a doubt. But we did that and have lost to teams which we really should be beating like Bristol City and Donny...
