Who started watching Saints only since we moved to St Mary's?

  1. No, I never saw Saints play at the Dell (but I have seen them at St Mary's)

  2. Yes, I've seen Saints play at both the Dell & St Mary's

  3. I've never seen Saints play at either

The Dell and St Mary's are two different staiums for very different times.

The Dell had a great compact, tight atmosphere and standing on the terrace in the Milton Rd end watching Leeds was a game I well remember. The crowd was packed in so tight I reckoned that if I lifted my legs of the ground the pressure form adjoining bodies would stop me from falling.

There was an excitement and anticipation about going to the Dell and after every game I went home hoarse. I am sure some younger fans feel that about St Mary's but I think I have mellowed and calmed down with age.

Nostalgia does strange things to the memory but the truth is you couldn't always see what was going on on certain parts of the pitch, you queued for everthing and the facilities were really poor.

I would not want to go back now and as much as the Skates deride stadia like ours once they leave their cowshed (if they ever do) they will not want to go back.

I remember being outside the Milton rd turnstiles at about 12:45 waiting for them to open at either 1pm or 1:30pm. You'd then surge to get in and get s good spot behind a barrier where I would stand on my wooden box so I could see!! We'd then eat our sarnies and wait for an hour and a half for kick off.

One other major difference was the car park. At the Dell you could swarm around thd players as they got out their cars to get autographs.

    Love St Marys now though.
