I thought the Dell was ****e. Glad when we moved it way have been all right when I first went, but as soon as it became all seater it looked stupid. Granted we had a laugh in the archers road bike shed, but no where near as much noise or atmoshpere as the Northam can generate. I have fond memories of the place but it was a **** ground with no faclilities.
Only saw one game at dell, it was in the last year before st marys, I think it was against Barnsley and it was 2-2 not sure though, however have only missed a few home games since about 2006
No facilities...what do you mean? We had a whole ladies toilet for no more than several thousand of us in the family section. If you ran the 100 m like Usain Bolt you could be back for the second half. We also had the pleasure of sharing the perfume of the gents toilet. Do have to say, the tea served from the little shed was miles better than the dishwater at St Mary's.
I was talking about the ground when it became all seater. Not the games that were played their or crowds pre then.
Was only 6 when they moved to St Marys, and 9ish when I got into football so never been to the Dell, wish I had though
Started supporting saints when I was eight, back in 2003. First game was the 1-0 against West Brom, Beattie scored a screamer iirc.
I saw Saints play at the Dell, probably about 3-4 times just before we moved. I used to go to Springhill and my dad helped out with the car parking. Don't remember much about it but I have a feeling one of them was against either Aston Villa or West Ham.
due to matches always selling out i only got about 5 chances to see saints at the dell, when we moved into sms my grandad bought me a season ticket to share with my cousins, have now been going for 10 years (feels wierd to say that)
I used to support Saints when they we're at the dell but due to age I was never working and never had the male figure in my life to take me to football as my Grandad and Uncle support Arsenal. I saw Saints play at Highbury though in 1997 but unfortunately was in the Arsenal end as my Uncle took me. 1st game at St Mary's was Spurs in FA Cup the year we got to final and loved the atmosphere!
The Pub is the Winston. I'm surprised its still going after the dell closed and general pub decline...Think it's an adopted pub for our Polish community. As for Simon's winebar I don't remember it, but with all the bars in bedford place it is probably still going under a new name. Have been to both and a season ticket holder for all 10 years at St Marys....the last two seasons have been the most relaxing
Saw the saints at the dell over the years but by no means a regular due to the fact that i used to play myself on saturdays and the tickets becoming scarcer due to seating restrictions. But i and my two sons are regulars at SMS and we love the stadium. i may have mellowed over the years but you cant beat a seat with an unobstructed view of the whole game and more often than not the atmosphere is good enough for me as you will see on saturday
First ever match was 6-3 game but only ever went to a couple of games at the dell, had a season ticket at,st marys for 4 years till i moved to uni
My first saints game was in about 95 at the dell against newcastle jim magilton scored the only goal !!!! The dell had some really great games and Le Tiss was always the hero
Started supporting Saints when I was 5, was only 8 when we moved but went to a few games with my dad when we moved, now can only afford to go to 5 or 6 home games a season. Sadly never experienced a Saints game at The Dell, would've loved to though.
First game at the Dell was Aston Villa in 1989. Thought it was amazing and I was hooked on football from that day forward. The Dell was a magical place for me and although i was initially pleased we moved to St Marys it has never been the same since. So many grounds nowadays are so similar and Im afraid ours is included. Cant believe people are calling it a dump! Saints have never been more respected than when playing there. I have seen saints beat the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd on more than one occasion at the Dell. That has never been matched at St Marys!!!
