I imagine Boruc was brought in to take the shirt over but Gazza has done nought wrong and I would play him until Boruc is proven to be fully fit. Even then it may still be Gazza if he is doing well.
Boruc is basically in his preseason now, Gazza has done nothing wrong but Boruc is the better keeper-has more experience and has the force to bollock the defence but he needs to get on the Rickie diet quickly
The diet that has him playing 90 minutes every week you mean? It's a bit harsh on Gazzaniga that he was dropped, but he must have been aware he's not first choice.
Don't disagree that Boruc/Gazza are first choice but would you give KD a run-out against Leeds? Don't think he should take all the blame for our poor defending!
Boruc will show his quality in time. Once he gets given a run of games then he'll be back in shape. 14 clean sheets in 36 for a decent Serie A side isn't bad! Gazzaniga was always going to be dropped when Boruc came but I think that Gazzaniga still should have played until Boruc was match fit.
The point about a sending off or injury is a fair one. I'd rather have Gazza in the team than Davis (sorry Kelv) but he's only had half a season of regular football so I'd like him to get some more experience. You can always insert a recall clause so he can come back if Boruc gets injured or suspended.
Could see no reason to drop Gazzaniga. Adkins said of Boruc that he had been good in training and playing for u21s, then added but he picked the ball out of the net 4 times. Think he blotted his book.
Spot on. You can't beat games for getting fit. Anyone questioning a fat, unfit goalkeeper didn't go away to Walsall 18 months or so ago: I give you fatty Walker. What a display that night.
There is no question that Boruc is the most experienced of the three with European competitions and international appearances to his name. At 32 he should be about at his peak for a goalkeeper, therefore in theory he has to be our no 1. However, he clearly is neither fully fit nor on top of his game. He should still be able to shout instructions to his defence and keep them organised as top keepers do. Nigel apparently states that Artur has been training well and improving his fitness, and watched him playing for the development team, a game incidentally in which the team conceded 3 goals. Having made the decision to include him in the West Ham match Nigel now has a problem. Quite clearly he is nowhere near the form which saw him gain all those international caps and made him Celtics keeper for years. He had a poor game. Now what happens? Do we persevere with him in the hope that his form and confidence quickly return? That may work, or it could be prove to be very costly. Gazzaniga has done everything that could have been hoped for in his three BPL games (apart from keeping a clean sheet), and in his 5 first team appearances for Saints has let in just 7 goals, the same number that Boruc conceded in 2 matches. Kelvin picked the ball out of the net 8 times in 4 games, although those matches included the two Manc clubs and Arsenal. In my opinion Paulo should have kept his place in the team even though he has the least experience of the three. He has done little wrong, and can only get better. NA has a lot of thinking to do before naming the team to face Spurs!
Kelvin. Gazzaniga is #12, Boruc is #31. Who should start in goal vs Tottenham however, is a totally different question ;-) Lat
Agree Fran but that's the sentimental side of me. NA has shown that he is strong enough not to let that affect his judgement. KD will only play if he's been better than the other two in training IMO.
