Give it to a player that is the most experienced and a guaranteed starter. That would be Mert. Also defenders usually make better captains as they can see more of the game. Saying that, I'd like to see Ramsey get it in the future as he is growing hugely as a player and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. He has dealt with adversity really well after his terrible injury and has become one of.our best players.

I was strongly against Ramsey becoming Wales captain at such an age, and right after coming back from his injury. I think the added pressure was bad on him at the time. Now I think he would be a good captain, and there's a good chance he'll be a starter for a while.

Mertesacker is a leader, but I really don't think he will maintain his starting place in the next 2 years.

Only guy I could see for certain has a pretty secure place in the squad for the next 3-4 years is Koscielny, IMO... but apparently he isn't thought of as much of a leader. (yet the same people considered Vermaelen a good leader? He never uttered a word or showed any emotion)

I don't think 23 (Ramsey will also be 24 this December) is too young to be captain personally, Adams was captain at 21 and i'm sure there have been other young successful captains. I'm satisfied with Arteta but I wouldn't have been upset if Ramsey had been named captain. Mertesacker would have been my choice but i'm not too fussed as long as we are doing well.

Ramsey has already captained Wales, okay it may have come a bit to early for him. But I reckon he leads by example now, he's become one of the most important players in our team.

What are your thoughts on Tony Adams being Arsenal captain when he was 21 ?

He was also an alcoholic at that time. Not the best example of giving responsibility to someone young.

Too young? For what? The captain literally does nothing in football. You can give it Steve Bould for all the good it does. It is at best a ceremonial position. Utterly pointless. TV was captain last season and barely played. None of you cared that our captain never started a game, yet the new one is important? The only time a captain is important in major sports is Cricket, seeing as that one actually makes decisions.

I think it's important off the field - as a go between Manager and Players. But organisers on the field will organise whether they wear the armband or not, so it's irrelevant.
