I do like Ings but even as a back up, I just can't see where he fits in? Sturridge and Origi are the top CF options. Mane, firmino Coutinho Lallana and GW are the options attacking midfielders. But adding more to Lucas's comment, Ings doesn't have a great goal scoring record even at Burnley when he was the focal point. He's a hard worker and young enough to develop. Decent option to have but Origi has shown far more, is younger and has a higher ceiling.
He can't score against teams he doesn't play against. I have precious little to judge him on since we didn't have him long before injuries but in the games he did play he was the only good player on the field. Even when all other 10 players were awful (as they were in much of his time on field) he still managed to shine. Assuming those wernt just freak appearances Im impressed and think he has earned the right to start more games to prove he is as good as he looks. I won't be shocked in the slightest if he is our top striker by end of season. Origi is OK but not "European Class". Sturridge is good but rarely available (mentally or physically). Ings in his brief outings has been great. Yeah. Doesn't mean he always will be but I see potential.
Come on milk, he had 11 appearances (5 subs) and scored 3 goals. That is hardly anything to shout about and as Lucaas said, look at the opposition at the time.
I'd play Ings CF ahead of Firm. not ahead of ORigi or Sturridge when they are fit in big league games though. Firm isn't a CF, he's needs a player ahead of him rather than being the man furthest up.
Serious question (as I don't see Firmino as a 9 either), are you going to have to drop one of Coutinho/Firmino from the starting 11 in most games or do you still see them starting together?
I see our attack (when all fit) as: -------------Can-------Wijaldnum Mane-----------Firmino---------Coutinho -------------------Origi Or if we play 4-3-3, then maybe one of Firmino/Coutinho get dropped for an extra midfielder.
No, Coutinho will get shafted by being stuck out on the left. Then people will start to question his commitment to the cause when his performances are very hit and miss. Coutinho is a number ten. All goods best games for us have come when he's in the middle.
I don't see firmino as a false 9 but ironically, his best performances have come from that position and his stats are ridiculous in terms of goals and assists in that position.
Right now this may well be it... or perhaps henderson depending on klopp. This ings stuff i dont get. Hes a nice guy im sure. He tries his best but if hed played last year while we struggled and no sat in recovery everyone would say hes a borini.
very simple... 4231 formation puts them in the same line up easy. A 433 put them in the same line up if firmino pays no 9.
2 goals in 3 leagues starts. 2 goals in 1 league-cup start. 4 goals in 4 starts. Yes they were against lesser teams for the most part but they also came against run of play. When we were shiite but he scored anyway. It's too early to get too excited and call him the next (pre injury) Studge. If he can manage that with no consistency in team when team is doing bad what can he do with a run in the team? Yes a 100% Studge should start every game. (will we ever see a 100% Studge again). Yes Origi got better and was decent towards the end, if nothing too exciting. Firm did well towards end as well but is perhap utilised elsewhere. It's too early to get too excited about Ings. 4 games (and about that many run down the clock for 5 minutes) isn't a lot. However he's taken every chance we've given him. He's not really had a bad game. He's done more for us in 4 games than Borini did in 3 years.
its not.. i can tell looking at him he is a) way short of real fitness b) just isn't a lethal striker. The best he can do is get a wide role and a workhorse.
Every team could do with a reliable workhorse that scores a bunch of goals. If Ings is a rich mans Kuyt with more goals then I'm happy.
I sincerely doubt the loads of goals part.. i think thats never happening. his record at burnley was decent 45 games in champ and cups 26 goals 35 games in prem 11 goals. however..... if he could get 11 goals that'd be ok for us but he'd get 15-20 games... benteke got 10 in 42 but most of those are also subs appearances late for klopp.... so.... is that bad? I dunno... whats bad for him would be great for ing and that says it all.
