Who mod the moderators

We've had a really good discussion about Black Caviar on this site over the last 30 hours. It's never gotten personal and it's been the most enjoyable thing I've read/ contributed to since I joined.

However, despite 100+ posts and a thousand views within 30 hours the mod has decided he wants to close the thread.

Why?

I've sent him an e-mail to ask what reasons he could have for that but also wanted to publicly state how unimpressed I am by that kind of censorship.

The mod expressed his view. Several disagreed with him. The thread was closed.

I am fully aware I am merely an irregular poster on here and the world will not end if I stop posting, however, i get my fair share of winners and would like to continue on this site. Nevertheless, I'll not bother until/unless the mod explains why such a constructive thread was closed. Is this going to be a regular feature of the forum?

So it's over to you to explain why we have such censorship on here.
 
Ive had my disagreements with Ron in the past, but I like him alot and think he is a genuine good guy, and want him 100% to continue as the mod on this board, as he does a great job.*

I do agree though that he was wrong to close the Black Caviar article, as it wasnt disrespectful, or becoming abusive.*

Ron can become sensitive when a horse he admires is rubbished, that's just the way he is.*

I actually admire him in some ways for it, but at the same time believe he is going overboard.*

I know you will read this Ron, so don't think I'm being disrespectful, as I'm fully in support of you as the moderator of this forum. I just think maybe you can overreact.*

Though everyone makes mistakes in the heat of the moment, including myself, so it realy is no big deal :biggrin:*
 
On a side note, regarding the moderation of this forum, I think we should have a 2nd moderator of this board.

Ron obviously has his days off and was gone for almost a month at 1 point, so I just feel he could do with a number 2. Not a guy who is above him, but a guy who can fill in when he is not a round. A sort of deputy moderator.*

There are many guys on here who i trust are more than capable of doing it, for instance, Stick, Topclass, RV, WF, Zenyatta and a few others.*

Though my personal preference would be for RV, as he is on here most regularly.*

Though he only uses his powers of moderation when Ron is away :biggrin:*
 
Rons fantastic.

He is always protective of any top class animal who gets slated and I like that because he keeps things in perspective.

Can see the other side of it and Ron will be more than happy to keep it open at requests im sure if he thinks the discussion will remain sensible.

Being a mod isnt easy and frankly he is superb.


Thanks for the recommendation Shergar but il be on the forum less and less, and have other priorities.
 
Just a couple of points. Many of us were on the old 606 forum and every time we compared horses it became a three hundred post boorish argument where neither side were ever going to budge and generally concluded with people being abusive and getting sin binned if not banned. I think Ron lowered the curtain on the Black Caviar debate at an appropriate time. I personally dont like entering these arguments as I spent far too much time on the old 606 doing precisely that. You should have your say and move on but sadly some people on the planet are incapable of moving on until they have bludgeoned to death every single adverse opinion. It never ends peacefully.

secondly on a lighter note. Shergar, I know we have the utmost respect for each other but a moderator is someone that can deal with conflict in a calm and rational manner. Two words that will never be used to describe me. In fact I would hazard a guess that I spent the most time in "moderation" on the BBC before eventually, harshly, being given a lifetime ban. Moderator material I am not ;-)
 
Having had a bit of time to reflect on this thread I regret posting it to be honest. Maybe it had something to do with the bottle of red I'd drunk during the football.

However, i still stand by my comments. I don't think it's right for any one person to decide a thread should be closed soon after voicing a bit of displeasure at the course with which it was running given that there wasn't really an under currents in the thread like in the bad old days of Arkle and his pals on the Old 606.

I think Ron is a great mod on here but this one decision riled me quite a bit.

So sorry Ron for the way in which I approached this. I should have just stuck to the e-mail I sent and left it at that. A bad decision on my behalf. Hope you will accept that apology. I am happy for this one to be closed.
 
My thoughts on this thread. RON is a legend and has done a great job with the forum. I don't think he should have closed the Black Caviar thread as me him and other fans were hammering you all off anyways with our comments <laugh> <ok>
 
Shergs <laugh> what a top man. Imagine me as a second moderator on here. If Ron returned from holiday the member base would be way down - I would annoy too many people.
 
I ain&#8217;t been around for a few days but are there suggestions that the old forum has gone all &#8216;Animal Farm&#8217;!

No complaints from this correspondent re the old moderation that has existed over the past 12 months. I wouldn&#8217;t change a thing...well apart from handing out lifetime bans to anyone who disrespected Mr Henderson.
 
Ron does an unbelievable amount of work maintaining this forum and gets so little credit for it. looking after us lot is practically a full time job!
 
I have to throw my two penny woth into this because in my view Ron is a complete gent and gets the moderation just right. I think without him this forum would not be what it is and would have become like the old 606 in 3 months.

There are certain people in life who you simply know are straight, by this i mean they are totally sincere. When you come across these people you support them even when you disagree and Ron is such a person in my view and as such will always have my support. I love the fact that i respect him so much and yet we have never met, usually you need to have looked into someones eyes to know them but with RoN it's not necessary as it's easy to see from how he conducts himself.

On this specific Black Caviar post i do actually agree with you Quel there was no need for it to be closed as was not abusive or personal. I was actually amazed how many really took that one to heart as i saw it simply as two oppossing views being stated fairly and intelligently. As i have stated above however if Ron thinks closing it was the thing to do, i'll go with that as i trust his view. The good thing about it is that if any of us are called before the headteacher (Ron) and asked to explain our behaviour we can always now remind him of the time he told Boris to F*** Off.

Just for the record and in danger of getting all sloppy on you all, i really think the damn lot of you are fantastic and i would be happy to share a beer, a good conversation or a day at the races with any of you, and that goes for you as well Boris.
