School? I can't even remember going to school! But no, I haven't. I guess engineers and surveyors and people like that use it, but then they have computers to work everything out nowadays don't they?

That means I am younger than you Fran.......<laugh> and yes I do have an "A" level in maths, so I did study enough. In answer to another observation by someone, no I haven't used sines or cosines or bloody algebra which I hated.

My brother's maths teacher, Price's School Fareham, had a favourite aide memoire for trigonometry

That's brilliant! I wish I'd had that when I was doing A level maths! We just had to remember SOH CAH TOA, which doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.

It's 19 out of 19 or 20 out of 20, something like that?

The guy can hit the ball that's for sure - one day he'll break the net!

Indeed. As the penalty king candidates have different totals between them, we get into the mirky realms of probability..! Who's up for that..?

Let's hope Beddy's asleep. He's apparently got an A level in Maths..how frightening is that?

What if a player scored a last minute penalty to win a cup final, would that make him a penalty king?

Inigo Idiakez isn't a penalty king, we know that for sure...

I eventually got to Uni as a mature student, with few qualifications in Maths, etc... because as a kid I was lousy at exams. I eventually got a GSCE A Grade, and a couple of other subjects too, as little side dishes, to go with my Environment BSc, which I really went to Uni for.

The only thing the BSc has been good for is giving friends an explanation of their thoughts and opinions on Climate Change, and the causes and effects of it. And NO, I don't want to get into that conversation..! :emoticon-0116-evilg

I needed maths o'level to get on a science course at Cardiff University. Took me 2 takes to squeeze through, but I reckon I've got more of a handle on things with life experiences. Playing darts helped with arithmetic for example. I still find I know more than most youngsters about things that matter in life, for example coping with a company that tells you have 0.36 weeks holiday left. You'd be amazed how many can't handle that. However, still feel that trig, geometry (except when calculating carpet size) and calculus were a complete waste.

Was that University College Cardiff (University of Wales) or the newly formed Cardiff University (distinct from UW)? Judging by the term "O-level" I'd guess it's the former? If so , greetings from a fellow UW alumnus :emoticon-0128-hi:

Did Human Physiology at Cardiff College, University of Wales from 1968 to 1972 (extra year because changed subject). Didn't know the colleges had changed to individual Universities.
Cardiff was nice city then but understand it has improved markedly. Tried to see it at the Cup Final, but coach broke down and we only just made it for the match.

Cardiff centre is great for eating, drinking, and watching sport. The Millennium stadium, as you know is a fantastic arena, and the location is second to none. Walk out the exit and straight into a huge choice of pubs, restaurants etc. Of course, that aspect hasn't changed much since the days of the National Stadium next to the Arms Park. You must have had a hard time during Rugby internationals, in those days - Barry John et al!

My time was a bit later, graduated '81 . English Grand Slam 1980. Much better!
