I think I may have mentioned this before - an acquaintance of mine is in the London Sheffield Wednesday supporters' club and goes to all the home games. I mentioned a name to him and he just went into one - once he got his railcard he got the train rather than the coach to avoid being anywhere near him!

Yes – and he would have been right. Churchill was a great wartime leader but he was not a great Prime Minister.

To think the BBC banned me from 606 merely for telling him I was going to burn his house down while he slept!

<laugh> He is an aquired taste although there is legitimacy in his contention.

It's just the way he tries to rubbish a true champion to further the extension of his own untouchable.

Both great horses but ultimately his evidence is compelling.

Think Cyc once famously said, "Yes, but he did have presence". Yep, you can say that again, and how! <yikes>

Have to disagree with you slightly, Dexter, how he can be an "acquired taste" is beyond my comprehension, like arsenic? Surely his crazy obsession with Arkle (a horse he never even saw run in the flesh) is unhealthy, and his vicious comments on anything he doesn't like also show, to me, a state of mind bordering on paranoia. Sea The Stars, for example, six Grade 1's in a row in one season, ending with his Arc triumph, yet he harped on about him losing his first race as a 2-year-old in Ireland, for God's sake!

My very last words on this subject and this person, and that is, he has done the great Arkle no favours at all.

Truly astounding how someone could, on the death of a champion racehorse, write a letter to a national newspaper belittling the animals achievements. Andrew, hang your head in shame. Totally disgraceful.

We all have humans and equines in the sport that we are fond of (Mr Henderson, for instance, has a countless number of devotees on the forum), and others less so, but to do this has to be, in my view, the epitome of bad taste and he has got the graceful timing of a stopped clock.

And how long has he been holding this ‘vendetta’ against Kauto Star for daring to do such a terrible thing as be very good and get a mention, by many, in the same breath as Arkle?!? For crying out loud, Andrew, just let it go as this response has made you look a very silly and bitter man.

I got banned by him in 2009 after writing a piss-take on Sea the Stars daring to mention ringing him up in Greenford (a la Samaritans) if you weakened and actually thought StS was a good horse.

You are right Dexter, he is totally wrong in the means he uses. Kauto Star was obviously a great horse. The season he first won the The Gold Cup he was outstanding. To not acknowledge that is ridiculous. Whether Arkle was a better horse is another story which he besmirches by his attitude to Kauto Star. I feel sorry for Arkle (the horse).
