Having been criticised countless times for being too finickety and pedantic, I am now trying to be as unclear as everyone else. And people are still getting at me. I'll spell it out: Liverpool are too weak at the back to win the title. They are 5th from bottom of this season's Clean Sheet table whereas all their competitors for the title are in the top 5. Liverpool's defence is porous: Swansea scored three against them, even Fulham scored two against them. Their title challenge will falter against teams better balanced between attack and defence.
You may well be right, but equally you may well be wrong too. We shall have to wait and see, whatever happens these next couple of months are going to be brilliant! Not that it means anything of course, but at least I see a couple of others share my views as there are now 3 of us in this poll who have voted for the scousers
The thing I really can't fathom is why "Arsenal" is in italics in the poll options. Is that the equivalent of an exclamation mark against a chess move?
The problem with your argument Munky is that Liverpool will have to retain their current form until the end of the season and also need other results go their way. To stand any chance they will have to beat both Chelsea and City which would still leave them 1 point short of both and 4 short of Arsenal. Lose to one of those and in the run in they have got to get 7 more points than the winners of that game and Arsenal in the 11 games that are remaining. Not impossible but unlikely especially as they also have the small matter of a trip to a reviving Man Utd. I can see why they are still 8/1.
I think you'll find it's because you voted for Arsenal! I voted for Man City and in MY poll they are the ones in italics!
Also to add, in the past ten seasons the top goalscorers have been crowned champions so I would say it's the "goals for" rather than "goal against" column which is the key indicator based on recent history
Both games at Anfield, and I'd say if they did win them both then they'd have to be favourites (BIG "if", admittedly, but that's the kind of thing the champions will have to do)
Yeah, but it's the perfect Mourinho anti-football scenario - Liverpool beat Man City to put Chelsea in front, followed by us knocking Liverpool out of the title race and then Chelsea beat them/draw 0-0/0-1 and cruise to the title... I actually think Liverpool will be caught out at Old Trafford first - thinking that a poor Man U side will be an easy win, I think Moyes will finally get their passion aroused to beat Liverpool. I'd also say Chelsea's remaining fixtures I'd say are the easiest, though Man City really ought to win it based on squad.
After yesterday's win made me less worried about our last few games, I'd be a lot happier for the championship to go to the last game of the season. I voted Man City before, and I'd just about stick with that. I think as a team they're better at chasing down rivals ahead of them than leading the way, and in that way their cup games will be helpful. They haven't got a league game for over a fortnight I believe, by which time they could have slipped to 4th. Must-win games in hand probably suits them. I think Chelsea lack the firepower, and Arsenal and Liverpool don't quite have the squad depth should they get an awkward injury (Giroud or Sturridge/Suarez for example), I think the top 4 are sorted though, and I could even see United stealing 5th from Spurs.
I originally went for citeh, but thought the Mourinho factor could see Chelsea as the probable most likely rivals. I'd probably switch to Chelsea now, I think there is the know how there to get over the line, that said Citeh will shortly have no champions league to worry about its just so open. I still can't see either Arse or the scousers winning it. Bah!
Anyone seriously still think Arsenal are going to win the league after that sloppy defeat today? And anyone still think I'm bonkers to suggest that Liverpool could after their fantastic win against Southampton?
Liverpool are in poll position with no other distractions and home games against Chelsea and Citeh to come. They have one of the best attacking four anywhere and Suarez can win a game on his own. This really could be their year!
With Man City still deservedly second favourites, the two games at Anfield are going to be massive though, the scousers must actually start believing and the atmosphere will be electric at both games.
