I suspect it will be one of the Tottenham guys. They're all good players, but it'll be tough to integrate them all. And they paid a lot so those guys could be fairly decent and still be busts. I also get the feeling they paid that much because of the Bale transfer, not because they sat down at the beginning of the off-season, charted a course, and set their targets. Still think Tottenham will be all right overall. Just the odds are when you pay that much for that many, you're likely to end up with a bust.
Anyone Arsenal ends up panic buying from France. Is it only me or does anyone else think this enormous transfer kitty they are supposed to have doesn't actually exist? All they've done this summer is make half-hearted big money offers for Higuian, Suarez and any other player they've been linked with.
They're probably in a more secure financial position than any other team in the EPL, but they're very cautious not to "overspend" on transfers, and that leads to a situation like this. They can afford Suarez, Higuain, Rooney, etc. but they won't pay whatever it takes to get them, and eventually the players get better offers elsewhere. I think there's a good chance they could get Benzema, and possibly Di Maria as well, but they'll have to splash the cash.
I'm not so sure they are in a strong financial position. If they really wanted those players they would have got them if the money was there especially with Higuain who was up for sale and I reckon £50 million would have got Suarez. Benzema and Di Maria will look at Arsenal and think can they win the league of Champions League and if I was them I would say no. Real Madrid will drive a hard bargain after they buy Bale so for the pair they will probably have fork out about £60 million and I suspect Arsenal can't pay that. Everything they are doing in the transfer market seems to be on the cheap at the moment.
They have the third highest turnover in the league, and that's without relying on any injections from their owners, and they're almost debt-free. It's easily the most stable club.
I read an article which suggested that the problem is that Wenger has too much power and he won't pay more than he thinks a player is worth. Sometimes you have to if you need that player. It was mentioned that most clubs have a group responsible for finding and signing players (as we do).
They absolutely are in a strong financial position. It's indisputable. Their accounts are made public. They have a cash balance of over £150m. They would never have got Higuain though, even though he wanted to go to Arsenal, because Napoli would have just kept bidding more than them.
