I factored them in as well, Liverpool and Swansea to play. Also got EIGHT of us on 41 points and you were 11th with the best goal difference. Think there could be a few surprises yet.

I assume the Stoke fans ask the same thing. To be honest, this season they'd probably take 1860 Munich.

Err, do you remember us totally outplaying Stoke, being 3-1 up & not winning? Yeah we are a better football team than them, but this not ideal.

It's only really hit home just this second that at 10pm on Tuesday night, NEWCASTLE could be in the bottom three.

You can't usually define a season in one incident but Borucs last minute penalty save at Norwich could prove crucial.

Maybe for us too,it was a decent penalty too.I think Saints are safe though,we just need the Swans to get something tuesday.(Cue abuse from MR HP Sauce)

Wigan have to win for ourselves be to back in a position where we need a win again to assure survival. Of course we want that anyway and I can't see us getting 4 defeats on the bounce. If Wigan draw or lose then they would need to win the last two games, one being Man City and the other a Villa side in the same position as themselves.

Need to do it on our terms and get a draw or win at Sunderland just for a morale basis alone.

It could, and it quite possibly will, but I don't think you can look at it like that. If you go through the whole season, for every club, you'll end up with tons of incidents like that.

If only we'd held on yesterday, if only Wigan or Stoke hadn't grabbed that equaliser against us, if only that Lambert chance vs West Ham hadn't been scrambled off of the line by Jussi, if only the officials had allowed Lallana's goal vs Swansea etc.

I'm going with Mauricio, if we continue to play like we did for 99% of the game yesterday, goals will come and victories against sides which are not as good as West Brom and Spurs will happen.

I'm not sure I'd be including the word 'just' in there. Anything but a Wigan win, especially given Michu's injury, would be a very big surprise to me.

And even if they do lose, you still need to avoid defeat to WBA - because if Wigan are alive on the last day, they will beat Villa, I'm certain of it.

    Agreed.

If anything, I'm slightly more positive now than I was 24 hours. I expected us to lose to Spurs, and I knew there was every chance that Wigan, Villa and Newcastle could all pick something up (so unlike some on here, our current position now hasn't somehow completely come out of the blue, with me wetting my third pair of pants). So none of that has affected me. But I was very pleased to see how we bounced back yesterday, from the WBA result and performance. Last thing we wanted was to do a Newcastle, and effectively follow up a 3-0 defeat with a 6-0 defeat. Gives confidence going into these final two games - and as you say, if we play like we did yesterday in these next two games, we'll pick up the points required.

I said this on the match thread so I'll say it on here as well: Wigan have 3 games left. I'm going to assume that Arsenal will beat Wigan so that leaves 2 games left and Wigan needing 5 points to overtake us, and that's assuming we lose both our remaining games. So Wigan need to beat both Swansea and Villa to have a chance of going above us.If Wigan don't beat Swansea I'm declaring us 100% safe.

Talk of Champions league football & which star player we were going to buy in the summer, once we reached 38 points seemed very premature to me. I've maintained for some time that it would be a high points total to stay up this year, I thought 38/9, but with Wigans seemingly endless about of luck it may well be 40. Now we should be able to achieve that target, but we seem to struggle in games where we need win against teams around us. We then seem to flourish against teams at the top (sometimes without reward). All I wanted after beating Reading was to not go into the final day with uncertainties, but other teams & us have will have to put up with that anxiety, & see who holds their nerves the best. One good thing may well come from this ending. We are not ready for talk of a European adventure & next year should be a building continuation, we still have a long way to go to call ourselves an EPL established club.....no matter how much money we chuck at the market place.

Another blow for Wigan as Beausejour looks to be out for the season. Think that means their only fit defenders are Boyce, Scharner and Golobart

Caldwell was on the bench yesterday, so he'll presumably be available to start.

I'd also say that Michu is a bigger loss for Swansea, than Beausejour for Wigan. Luke Moore is a bit of a drop down!

Wigan will beat Swansea, probably with the ref giving them a goal like Lallana's by not blowing the whistle.
