Though if we have the opportunity on the final day to relegate Stoke and fail, the rest of the football world will never forgive us.
I think it's between Stoke and Wigan. Stoke have: QPR (a) Norwich (h) Sunderland (a) Spurs (h) And then us (a) Wigan have: Man City (a) West Ham (a) Spurs (h) West Brom (a) Swansea (h) Arsenal (a) Villa (h) I think Wigan have the harder run in, and Stoke have a head start. In this case, games in hand are definitely not an advantage!
In the last 10-15 years alone, I recall that we've sent Wimbledon, Plymouth and Millwall down (and Coventry? I can't remember if they were already down or not last season), and done our best to send Walsall down (though, from memory, despite losing at our place, Walsall still survived thanks to Dag&Red's incompetence elsewhere - that was a bizarre end to the season, both sides celebrating).
Villa have Chelsea and Sunderland at home and United,Norwich and Wigan away. They needed three points yesterday.
The way I see it, it's between Wigan, Norwich, Sunderland and Stoke. Most likely to be Wigan, in my opinion, but Stoke will push them hard. Reckon Norwich and Sunderland have enough about them to see it out.
His favourite manager is Harry. At best, he accepts and puts up with Sam, and a worst his second favourite manager is Sam. He judgement of managers is best ignored imo.
That was a wonderful end to the season - if I remember correctly, the Walsall players joined the fans in the away end.
All this talk about Coventry last season has now given me the urge to go on Saints player and watch the game again. So I will.
So Nigel is smug and clueless? I was sure that Trix was sticking up for him and saying that we were wrong to sack him the other week...
Although his original suggestion was that we sacked Nigel in Nov/Dec and replaced him with Harry. Because apparently the great, almighty Harry has a track record of taking clubs over in Nov/Dec, and keeping them up...
What a massive result for Sunderland today. Had they lost, I think that would have been it, but I think they'll be alright now. It's not just the points, it's the morale. At this moment in time I would say that Wigan may have run out of luck this year, but it's changing week to week and that final spot is just too hard to call. I know it's an abvious thing to say, but it depends on the result of a lot of games which are individually very difficult to call. Fascinating.
I personally think Stoke are looking the most likely at the moment. They haven't got any confidence, are devoid of ideas and nothing is going their way. You make your own luck people say Newcastle today just showed why Pardew was a poor manager for us and why nearly every club he has been at has ended up disliking him after the first season. Though not as 'gamesmanlike' as West Ham or Stoke they do punt the ball a lot. Shows how good we are that we did had 100% success with punts yesterday In the end the only way to score was over the top of a midfield of rugby tacklers and wannabee refs.
I've still got it saved on Sky+ and give it a watch if I'm feeling a bit down! Such an amazing feeling that day, I was just wandering aimlessly about smiling to myself after the match.
I watched the game in the Uni Library when I was meant to be revising. Then went home to celebrate as I was too hyped up to continue revising. Had so much positive energy that I threw on my Saints shirt and went running around Plymouth....sad but true. Immense feeling of euphoria and pride. Edit: And I now think it's between Wigan and Stoke for that 3rd relegation place.
Alright lads. Since Di Canio has come in we've much improved, can't see us going down now. Looking forward to our game in a few weeks Stoke for me
I agree, the way you played today was awe inspiring compared to your flat performances under MON, keep going like that and you will be fine. Between Stoke, Wigan and Villa at a push for me, Villa's goal difference is woeful and could come back to bite them.
