i just like the way you're nervous about relegation but have us finishing 11th! The joys of being a footy fan. ha ha
indeed. if that was a cautious / honest assessment of the upcoming fixtures who knows what might happen if we go on a good run. Europe!!! ha ha ha
get in! I fink we're in for a rough ride. its going to the last day of the season for me. sorry, we just let so many points slip its untrue. reckon we'll just about scrape through though.
We have played well for quite a while now, but had too many draws. I think we will keep the standard up and will get some wins...the teams behind us are now closer, but they have to do as well and pick up the points difference and then maintain that till the end of the season. Consistency in not losing too many is our asset.
Yeah I think I was looking back at it, I was just glad we weren't in the bottom 3! And well who knows?
I'm still sticking with QPR and Wigan, undecided between Villa and Reading for the last spot. If QPR aren't picking up any points from teams like Swansea or Norwich, then they have no hope left really. Wigan didn't come back to draw after going 2 goals down at Stamford bridge, so they must be ****e! I think we will know a lot more about Villa's chances after tomorrow. Will the manager of the month curse destroy Reading?
I think 36 points will be enough to stay up this season, 38 at a push. Looking at our remaining games 3 wins would be very achievable.
Not really expecting anything up in Geordie land, i think they might beat us. But surely it is our destiny to smash Satchel face at St Mary's this season?
We beat Newcastle here and have got points against Chelsea, Everton, City and Arsenal....don't see why we couldn't get something at St James's.
So basically we only need to win four more games to guarantee survival? I don't think it's out of our reach to beat most of the following: QPR (H), Norwich (A), Reading (A), West Ham (H), Sunderland (A) and Stoke (H) Mid-table finish isn't out of our sights if we keep playing with the same tenacity as we have today.
There's no reason we couldn't, but Newcastle are very much improved, especially from when we last played them, and they are still a good team at home, the only thing now holding them back from once again being a top 6 side is that they have physically lost Demba Ba and his goals and Papiss Cisse has mentally lost his. Draw would be a very good result going in I'd say, and achievable if we are able to disrupt them to the level we have others under our new 'philosophy'. They do have home and away ties against Metalist (with the away leg in Ukraine three days before our game) in the Europa League to contend with in the mean time though whilst we have a nice rest. Although the last time we were in a good run of form and then had two weeks break before facing a team from Tyne and Wear it didn't go particularly well. Ideal thing for us would be them losing by a goal or two at home and then going away to Ukraine with Metalist parking the bus to hold their lead, forcing them to field their first team and give it their all only to be unable to scrape back the deficit, leaving them physically and emotionally drained and forced to field a second XI against us. Fingers crossed!
I would accept a draw at Newcastle and a win against QPR, but six points would also be acceptable My confidence in our survival is based on our performances...we aren't relying on just the odd lucky win. Have been confident for some time.
Yes we have really shown in the last four games that we can compete and beat the best. A couple of signings in the summer and who knows........
Yesterday proved to be the pivotal weekend in the season with rgeard to the relegation battle. I think the win for Saints has oppened up a gap which will be difficult for the other teams to bridge. I think the 4-1 reverse to Swansea confirmed QPR's relegation and any talk of "Harry magic" (including by me!) can now be discounted. As far as the other two places, I can't see this being sorted out until the last day of the season and there will be plenty of other permutations. My gut instinct is telling me Wigan have enough savvy to escape the drop and that Villa are too poor to stay up. Adam Le Fondre seems to have revitalised Reading yet I think they will also go down with Villa.
