I only want one thing from this season & thats not to be able to ask; 'What might have been?' after the final game is played. From what I have seen so far, we stand a good chance, but boy do we need to make a little bit of luck, if you call it that.
Interesting how quickly things can change. Reading looked doomed three weeks ago and have turned things around.
That's what I've been saying. QPR probably need about 1.6 points/game according to a tv pundit...unlikely, especially as they need others to fail as well. Don't think Villa look as if they have enough in them...and neither do Wigan (as we outplayed them without taking the 3 points). I think that Saints, Reading and newcastle have that bit extra that will see it out.
MOTD3 pundits predict who will go down Both Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage predict Saints to stay up and Villa and QPR to go down. Only difference is Alan believes Reading will occupy the third relegation spot and Robbie thinks that the law of averages means that Wigan can't survive again.
Savage is brain dead. The law of averages doesn't work that way. It's like saying if you toss a coin heads three times it is more likely to be tails the fourth time.He might be right though, but not for that reason.I think its QPR plus two of the three above them.
Why didn't he just say he thinks they will go down because they're not good enough to stay up this time?
I know Savage is a plonker but you guys are being very harsh. The "law of averages" is often invoked to refer to something that is unlikely to happen so many times. It's not a science programme, everyone understands what he means, what's the problem exactly?
Indeed. I don't think it was intended to be taken literally, but just as an expression that he didn't think they could avoid the drop yet again, after flirting with relegation so many times.
To be fair to Savage (who I incidentally quite like as both a pundit and player) I have to agree with him about Wigan, they've had a good run of 8 premier league seasons but have been punching well above their weight, you can't be as bad as they have been for the past 4 years and expect to survive again. As was proven on Saturday they are quite a poor side.
Well I think that if you had lightened up on the throwaway use of the phrase 'law of averages', we wouldn't be having this little exchange. You can write touché if you want.
I think laughing about something that I consider to be funny would be considered the very embodiment of lightening up. We wouldn't be having this "little exchange" if you and PTF hadn't taken issue with such a harmless thing.
You've frequently expressed your distaste for jokes that belittle other races for example, would you accept Bernard Manning telling you to "lighten up"?
Are you implying that a light-hearted dig at the mathematical ability of a football pundit (who I actually happen to like) is equivalent to racism?
