Sorry Dave, maybe I was a bit hasty.

Upon reading it again, I am now of the opinion that it was an in-depth and thought-provoking post!

    Haha, made me chuckle.

Reo Coker is an interesting shout. Higly rated English player fallen by the wayside somewhat. Bit of Lambert magic need on him perhaps???

I must say he's never impressed me, and I suspect his wages would be very high :(

I agree that since he has been at Villa he has played rotten with a dubious attitude to boot but I do remember thinking he looked a player whilst he was at West Ham and was on the cusp of an England place at one point. High energy and good in the tackle.

His wages would obviously be problematic though, no idea what he is on at the minute but Im sure he'd have to take a significant reduction if he came here. Although would he have any other options willing to pay his current Villa wages after his form there???

I left this for a few hours hoping that a few of the guys would leap in and offer their praise to you! When you make a reasoned response such as your last post on here, you are a pleasure to discuss and debate with, it lets us know that we have been missing out on a good poster for all those times you were being silly! I hope this is a new beginning for Whole_lot_of_Holt! Welcome back into the fold <ok>

Just readed on EDP24 that Dani Pacheco is for sale at £3m I for one would purchase him straight off. Signs off a great player there and at £3m that is a cheap price for a player I would say is going to be a lot better than Torres and he went for £50m. Also would love to purchase Lansbury I would say he must be around the £1m to £3m mark.
Then just a new centre back if Reading don't make it Mills looks good and has that Lambert walk in him.

Pacheco sounds good, been reading on the Liverpool board, a lot of them think he'd like to come here, fingers crossed <ok>

new to the site so be gentle.............

my first signing would be another keeper - Ruddy was poor at the start, played very well in the middle and had a poor finish. I am not convinced - Forster looks surplus at Newcatle. Would like to buy him rather than a loan though. Failing him how about Lee Camp - consistently one of the best keepers outside the PL.

I think we need another centre half. I like Barnett and Whitbread but dont think Ward is PL standard. Mills or Chambers would be a good addition.

I can see us signing Mackail Smith and Bennett. Both appeared to want to come to us in january. May be Cody will go to Peterborough in p/ex.

I agree Pacheco would be a good buy at £3m. Maynard has always looked good - quick with a good goal scoring record and would fit the Lambert criteria of up and coming, hungry with something to prove.

  14. Welcome Thetford! Agree on the 'Kepper front, I think Ruddy will be first choice and with a decent second choice this will keep his form up. Kieren Westwood is available on a free and would be a good addition imo. Not too sure on Camp, shot stopping is good but he lacks presence aerially, something I think we will need in the PL.

Agree, another CB is required. Although, I actually rate Ward over Whitbread, Ward's form increased substantially towards the back end of the season as his fitness improved. I like Whitbread but what worries me about him is that he doesn't ever seem to sprint, merely jog. Ward is aerially dominant and has good anticipation, not to say Whitbread couldn't be our best player but would like to see him work on his fitness and work rate over the close season.

For me, best cb's in our division were:

    - Luke Chambers
    - Ashley Williams
    - Matt Mills
    - Wes Morgan (at times)

All hard working decent players, but who would be available I think depends greatly on who goes up i.e. Mills / Williams.

I like CMS but I have my doubts he would cut it in the PL, an outside shot for me would be Leroy Lita...but would be equally happy with Maynard. Least forget, Maynard was a leading scorer in the chammpionship last season but had injury problems this time around.

Bennett is clearly a good player but I would imagine that we will stick with our diamond, at least to begin with, so where would Bennett fit in? Obviously, we want some options so we can change to 4-4-2 in case the diamond doesn't work well.

Pacheco would be a great signing, as he is in the Hoolahan mould and we will require that creative spark.

I think whoever PL signs, and I trust him completely with whoever it may be, I very much doubt he will change the squad around much from last season. I expect the recent starting line ups will likely be how we line up for the first few games next season.
