Taylor hasn't cut it for me. Doesn't score enough, Hes alright at holding the ball up but I doubt we will see that type of football under SOD next season. Hoping for sexy football, Something Stead and Taylor won't suit.
Taylor was fantastic when he was with Rotherham, playing alongside LeFondre weird really we had the choice out of either of them? LeFondre would of been a fantastic signing went to Reading for something like 300k
Im talking about taylor not LeFondre. Taylor looked good in league 2 just like akinde. He's not a championship striker imo
Shiny, this has nothing to do with league 2, you haven't seen anything frm Taylor yet. You will recall that his career for us so far has consisted of being about the only bloke (apart from Steady) who has been responsible for holding the ball up front for us for more than 1 second... We have yet to see him actually attacking crosses in front of goal - this of course is because we lost the ability to put decent headable crosses into the box many years ago so he has had little opportunity to score many goals using his ability and main strength. He wins more than his far share of headers so give him something to get on the end of and I think you will see a completely different animal - not sure why you can't see that...
I see his hold up play. I also see a striker who is not championship material. Like I said its just my opinion
When did you last see a decent cross come into the box at head height from the wing...? Last one I remember was the 1st goal against Peterborough on the 29th December 2012 - nice cross straight on Anderson's head 1-0 I really fail to see how people can make judgement on a player when we do not play to his main strength....
One of my memories regarding taylor was bolton away, 3-2 down in the 90th minute a perfect cross was put to him on a silver platter, and he missed it by 10 yards.. You can make the arguement he doesn't get the service, but other strikers can make chances and offer a threat without service, stead, davies, baldock
That of course happens to even the best but the more opportunities a striker gets, the more chances he gets to score. I see Taylor as your old fashion centre forward and we simply haven't played that way for, well, years. AG has been well known as the strikers graveyard since the mid 00's which coincided with the arrival of our defective midfield play. The are several examples of players who had a good record before they came here, couldn't score and left and resumed normal service. Brett being the latest... Our game plan has been fundamentally flawed for about 5 years now which is amply reflected in our league top scorer record as under:- 06/07 - Jevons with 11 07/08 - Byfield with 8 08/09 - Maynard with 11 09/10 - Maynard with 20 10/11 - Pitman with 13 11/12 - Maynard with 8 Ample proof that we did not play as a cohesive team over this period and simply did not create anywhere near the number of chances for our forwards that normal teams do. We used to advance to 30 yards from goal, run out of ideas and hit a glass wall. Never a first time ball into the box so our strikers eventually stopped making the runs, it became a vicious circle... This is the main thing that I am looking to SoD to put right....
