Club wanting to appoint someone then changing their mind due to fan reaction (if that indeed happened) sounds rather familiar.

Who's the 2025 version of Paul Sturrock?

I think he was unfortunate at Man Utd. Uf he had remained , i feel they would have built off from the foundation he has built. It would be a massive coup for us.

I don't think that would happen. If we were to hire him in a few weeks it would be because we are winning games and he is doing such a good job that he deserved the chance.

Why would the players not respect someone that completely turned things around and got them winning?

Unless he does badly and we still hire him, which I don't think would happen.

Fair point actually, I'd still have concerns about how the players would react to a bad spell with him in charge.

We scraped a win over QPR and beat a League One standard team and that's enough to get him the job. **** off SR.

Always felt that was the most likely outcome. We don’t know the feeling amongst the players about Still but it looked like they didn’t want to play for him. If they want to play for Eckhart and, based on the small sample size, they do then seems logical.

Id only be giving him a deal till the end of the season and re-assess

2 bad results in a row and it will turn toxic again. If this is true it's ****ing ridiculous. It is only Alex Crook reporting it at this stage though.

I have no problem with Eckert having the job for a few games after the International break, I just don't understand the rush to appoint him permanently...

It makes no sense to act now and give him the job. It's rare to get the chance to trial run a manager without committing, but that's exactly the situation we find ourselves in.

I think what Adam Blackmore predicted will happen. 2 wins out of 2, albeit unconvincing wins, has earned him the right at another few games. If we show an improvement in performance and carry on winning in the next 3 then I wouldn't be against him getting the job full time.

I'll say it again in case anyone from SR is reading...

Caretaker managers (including given the job FT stats)
Gray, Wigley, Dodd & Gorman, Wilkins, Selles, Rusk combined win % average =12.5

Please note SR, it NEVER works.

It's Alex Crook, and Talksport are already backing away from what was said. Chill.

I think he gets the next few games, largely due to the paucity of other options (we also don't know who has said no to the job). If he wins a load, well fine. But I wouldn't be taking anything Crook says to heart.

If Eckert performs well over the next three games after the break (Charlton, Leicester, Millwall) then he could well get the job then. Would be hard to go another direction if he wins 2/3 of those.

If after 2 weeks of full training over the international break, we come out and win another 2 out of 3 with markedly improved performances, you would judge him on the performance of previous interim managers rather than his 5 games in charge?
