Not wound up at all. In fact, I'm enjoying watching you make even more and more stupid comments.

Firstly a defence is a unit (which includes the goalkeeper). If that unit is being universally criticised with the exception of the goalkeeper then it is clear that the other members of that unit are failing. Now even a Manc can understand that!

Yeh, don't mean to patronise Bods but you haven't read what I've said. Averaging 2 pts per game at this stage of the season isn't the point. Whatever any team has done so far, it's all about how close they each are at this moment to achieving the 2 points per average by the end of the season. That's the point Jaffakop was making that seems to be being missed.

We are all of us agreed that Chelsea and City have got the top 2 places because of the strength of their first team and their squad. So why don't we also apply the same principle to 3rd and 4th? It is 19 matches and therefore a long run of matches.

    Liverpool

    Mancs

    Southampton

    Spurs

    Arsenal

So five teams for 2 places. How would you rank Liverpool's strength compared to the other 4. If we think that we are 1st or 2nd then we have got a chance of catching up. If we don't then the gap will remain. Unless we think that Rodgers and his team are going to be very lucky indeed.

Any of us currently think we've got the best team of the 5? Or even the second best team?

And what will be the reason for the ~15 point gap we'll have over you next month?

Your 'unit' has conceded 25% more league goals.........so if theirs has failed, where does that leave yours?

Tbh the number of goals conceded, the fact that Carrick is also part f our defensive play, as is surprisingly Young and Valencia, seems to be lost. Our problems have also been bcos of injuries to our back line and the fact Rafael, Shaw, Jones and Evans are now back are also being ignored. But yeh, apparently we're 3rd playing with 7 (no back 4 just De Gea on the pitch) so we deserve even more credit <ok>

Firstly, if you have the right to an opinion then so do I. My opinion is that your opinion is wrong. It's as simple and straightforward as that.

I don't see any 'norms' being relevant this season but I do see signs that the whole attitude of the side is changing. We do have a striker and hopefully he will return to the field shortly. The goalkeeping problem is for Rodgers and the committee to resolve.

Now I believe that based upon these changes there is a realistic expectation of a challenge for 4th place which I also believe will be aided by the inconsistencies of our rivals.

That is not dissimilar to my own opinion despite you going for the jugular at the first opportunity<ok>

I've never said we cannot do it - just that I think it is unlikely.

This is assuming that lfc is 100% consistent and all the others are inconsistent without exception. If one or two remain consistent or we fail in being almost perfect then we won't be able to move above the others in front of us. The laws of maths (of probability ) unfortunately apply.

    I don't understand this concept.

We agree our defence is as poor as or even worse than our challengers. Our GK is provably the worst of the bunch. Our attack is without any strikers and is definitely not the best.

Yet we say we have a realistic chance of overtaking everyone. Am I missing something here??

Just look at our performance last year and your interpretation of the Laws of Probability go right out of the window. Now look at the table as it stands and tell me what consistencies you can actually define?

Now I'm saying that I see signs of us improving to a point where a 3/4th place challenge is possible. I don't see the same type of improvements happening with our competitors for 3/4th place.

Thankfully, delusion and bias to the point of being blinkered <ok> Be grateful

We all agree though that you have a chance, but the argument you've pointed out several times about your rivals is spot on. The truth is that you'll drop points and so will your rivals. Nobody is going to be exceptionally better than anyone else, but based on results so far there's little to suggest disproportionally Liverpool will be better than the top 4 or 5 there at the moment.

Having said that, can't single out the delusions of one or two on here. You listen to Arsenal and United fans and many of them seem to also think their team can only get better while the others will get worse <laugh>

Ignoring value, injuries and whatever else, our first pick 4 of Sturridge, Coutinho, Sterling and Lallana is pretty damn good and capable of scoring against anyone. They are all similar tricky little players who like to link up with quick one twos and counter attacking play. I would put that right up there in the league tbh.

Sturridge is arguably our most important player this season as the only striker we have who remotely fits the style of football we play and the only one who offers our midfielders what they need to be able to play to their best (movement, pace and hard work ahead of them). You take out Sanchez from Arsenal, Rooney from United, Schneidelin from Saints or Erikson from Spuds and see how they cope - even Matic from Chavs or Silva from City. It's not just the goal scorer or the best overall player, it's the one who pulls the rest of the team together and lets them play. Still plenty of games left to play and plenty of time for injuries or poor form to take their toll. If we can keep Sturridge fit, I'm confident we can pull it back and get top 4 - providing Rodgers has now learned how much better we play with an outfield full of players who are mobile and can press without a single passengers.
