If ever I needed further confirmation of my view about Motson, I was fully vindicated with his Football focus contribution just now. Laughable that he would say ' I don't know if Tottenham fans appreciate how important this game (vs Watford) is, they could go second and from there they could go to first in the future.' Thanks for that wonderful insightful comment John and rest assured, I am sure even Tottenham fans have the brain power to appreciate this! Is he really paid to come out with this twaddle?!

Oh come off it! First week in England he writes of a Masarati. What about the time he drove around Manchester dressed as Father Christmas chucking cash out the window. And ofcourse he let off fireworks in his bathroomm, burning it down in the process. Rhw guy is a legend!

Not qualified to judge him as a player since I rarely saw him play. But I have no problem with goal poachers as players. Especially not if they play for the club I support and score a goal every other game.

But all I have to go on is his MOTD punditry. Which is mostly awful. I just have a hard time believing he would have that job were it not for people's fond memories of his playing days. Which I understand. But since that stuff means nothing to me, I just find him annoying. Thus from my perspective he is "overrated."

I suspect that if Austin scores 75 goals for Saints, retires and then becomes an awful pundit I will still like him a lot regardless!

Lineker doesn't do punditry on MOTD. He presents the show. When I've seen him actually do punditry, which is rare, he's often the most intelligent and witty one of the lot. It's a shame he presents so well, because he's one ex-player who I'd like to see air his views more often.

As a supporter who did see him play throughout his career I can tell you that he was a world class poacher. He scored goals when other strikers would miss or who wouldn't be in the right position. He had the instinct.

Agree 100%. His hat trick against Poland in the 1986 World Cup was a thing of beauty and genius. And his intelligence as a footballer is matched by his skill as a presenter. I can't understand why some don't like him.

Well he does have truly awful facial hair, worse even than a certain Liverpool winger. It's understandable how that might prejudice some people.

Yes, I don't quite know why he has that. Makes him look older and more scrag-bag than he is, in my opinion.

As a 'personality' I must say I agree with Saintmagic. I think I'd want to kill within an hour with Nigel. Sorry.

Let's see how punchable Nigel is. Watch this old video and decide: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/15126250

I think I'd want to punch Mark Clemmit as well. :)

Adkins does have some horrible sound bites that sound like textbook management lingo, however he comes across as a positive guy with a sense of humour and someone a bit different, it is good to have characters in the game different from the norm.

I do agree, but it's just the quotes. The constant quotes. "Believe to achieve" - ARRRGGHHHH! As you say, textbook management lingo. Back in my corporate days we had a trainer in who was exactly the same - Australian chap who clearly thought he was training Americans going by the amount of cheesy nonsense he came out with. He was universally derided.

I think it's because of him I have an aversion to NA's ways sadly. It's like choosing a name for your child and you automatically avoid those of people who've annoyed you in the past!

Late to the party - This is just straight out hate. Their presence around football is enough for them to be over-rated in my view
