I was born in the USA during the 1890s.
I worked as a journalist during the Spanish Civil War.
I survived two plane crashes in the space of 24 hours.
I won a Nobel prize.
I committed suicide during the 1960s.

More clues to follow if needed, but I reckon you clever bods will get it quite easily.

I could sing, dance and act in Shakespearean plays, but comedy was my true forte.
I entertained troops during WWII.
I married eight times.
 
I was born in the France in 1950 but moved to the USA in 1952.
I was badly injured during the Vietnam war and spent six months recovering in hospital.
I married a famous actress in 1985 who died two years later.
I won my first Oscar in the late 1980s.
 
I was born near Liverpool during the 1950s.
My talents were recognised by the mother Phil Collins.
I have worked on movies with the likes of Roman Polanski, Peter Sellers and Tom Courtenay.
Other jobs include advertising Tizer and Crème Eggs, walking the boards with Simon le Bon, and achieving a top 20 hit during the 1970s.
I have one son named Ted.
