A close run thing, judging my Twitter poll.

    I reckon it’s Dillon.

    Thoughts?

Lee Bowyer's judgment is good enough for me. I don't believe he would give in to pressure from Aston Villa if he thought Dillon Philips was a better goalkeeper than Jed Steer.

So I would say it's Steer.
Not much between them in terms of ability to save the ball, but Steer distributes it better I think.

I think it was a condition of Steer’s loan from Villa that he plays.

If that's true then it's a disgrace - and it would erode my respect for Lee Bowyer.

One of the many things that Roland Duchatelet did to damage our Club after he bought it was to introduce the (largely continental European) notion that the head coach can be told who to pick for a match day, by the owner or one of his executives.
This to me is totally unacceptable.

The Charlton manager picks the Charlton team.

Not Duchatelet, not the EFL (Checkatrade 'rules') and certainly not some suit at Aston Villa.
I would like to see proof that Steer has to play as part of the terms of his loan deal, or I'm not going to believe it.

Turning it around - why would a big Championship club send him to us and pay his wages, only for him to sit on the bench.

I imagine ALL clubs have stipulations with players coming in on loan.

I can see the logic of that point. But the decision must be Bowyer's and his alone.

If Lee Bowyer really thinks that Dillon Phillips is a better keeper than Jed Steer, but Bowyer is picking Steer because he has no choice, that would be a scandal as far as I'm concerned.
And a worse scandal if Bowyer is willing to accept being told who to pick, and is willing to keep that fact a secret.

If there is a contract clause that says Jed Steer must play, let's have that out in the open.
Why would either Club hide it unless they are ashamed of it (or it's not even legal).

The same would apply to outfield loan players as well.
Charlton won't win promotion if other Clubs are picking our team.

I am guessing that Villa put a call in after Dillon played the first 4/5 games. He didn’t do a lot wrong.

Naturally all Clubs want their loan players to be first choice match-day picks.
Some may lobby the team they have loaned a player out to, to persuade them to play their man.

But putting it in the contract that their players must be picked? That is outrageous and wrong. If it's true then the loan system stinks even more than I ever thought it did.

Sorry guys I don't believe it.
If it were true fans of all lower league Clubs would be up in arms about it.

Indeed, if you think that Dillon Phillips is a better keeper but Steer is playing because Bowyer has no choice, are you OK with that?
It's no different from Duchatelet telling Chris Powell and Jose Riga who to play back in 2014.

Phillips should be playing. The mystery surrounding Steer's selection is the elephant in the stadium.

What an unconvincing keeper Jed Steer is.

He can’t help being even smaller than @baraettmattesvensson , but to think we had Ben Amos between the sticks last season <doh>. There was a keeper who not only commanded his box, but also consistently pulled off world class saves.

I have yet to see Steer make a decent save and he simply lacks the presence to inspire any confidence in the (shaky) defence in front of him.

Let’s have Dillon back in goal for Coventry, and if Villa don’t like it they can fvck off !

I agree with Dillon, however I think with the defence we have at the moment we could play both him and steer and we'd still let goals in
