Schmeichel Parker Pallister Irwin Bruce Sharpe Ince Hughes McClair Keane Cantona Robson Kanchelskis Giggs See if anybody can spot what I did there.
One of the many reasons I loved that side, they could, to a man, mix it with anybody. Our current squad and first team couldn't fight me for ****s sake, and I'm hurtling towards 50.
They really are. They should be for the money they've spent but they truly are a fantastic footballing side and if they go on to win the CL then they're definitely up there with the treble Utd team and Arsenal's invincibles (feel sick saying that). It's been a long while since I've seen Spurs completely dominated in a match but City butchered us at The Etihad this season.
Would you expect any of the players from that season to be in an all time PL XI? I assume you're going to say Kante at least.
It's difficult ... different eras and different rules ... Vardy would have a field day against Pallister and Bruce for instance ... partly because they would not have been able to touch him nowadays ... but back in their day? I'll say this ... Vardy is a fabulous goal poacher - one of the best instinctive finishers I've seen .. he already holds the record for the most goals scored in the EPl in consecutive games and that was a huge factor in our title win. He also seems to score whenever we play the 'big teams' - latest against Chelsea in the cup - you need your top players to perform against the very best - but he's not perhaps as naturally 'gifted' as some other forwards that have graced the EPL - although undoubtedly one of the quickest, if not THE quickest .... Kante - if you are setting your team up to include that type of defensive, box-to-box midfelder- then yes - he's the best I've seen doing what he does. Mahrez - if his name was Mahrezinho he'd already be in Spain ... the most naturally gifted footballer I've seen in close to 50 years watching Leicester City - he's as exciting a player as he Prem had had in its' existence when he's on his A game IMHO - will be a sad day for me when he moves on - but he will go with my very best wishes ...
That doesn't say much, Fosse I don't think Mahrez is as exciting as Ronaldo was for Man Utd. He'd be in contention, but he'd just miss out on the all time squad, for me. Kevin Phillips would surely be in an all time premiership XI before Vardy.
... all about opinions Saffy ... what did KP help Sunderland to win? ... just wondering where your 'surely' comes from ... because it won't stack up from a trophy perspective ...
Yep Vardy surely more worthy of making the team ahead of Van Nistelrooy, Henry, Drogba, Ostenstad, Cantona, Shearer, Cole, Yorke. No brainer
I don't get this argument. The likes of Jimi Traore have a Champions League winners medal and Shearer won 1 league title in his whole career, that's not what made him, it was his goal scoring record in the PL season in season out. Out of all them illustrious seasons, only one delivered a trophy....Alan Shearer = 1season wonder. Fergie didn't try n try to get Shearer because he won a league at Blackburn, it was because of his goal scoring.
