If we're talking current squad values then ours is prob about 16th...

lambert, Gerrard, Johnson, lovren, balotelli are worth about 500k between them...

rodgers is a genius getting a squad worth hardly anything to challenge for 4th if you ask me

Everton are number 7, but the price difference between 7 and 6 is ridiculous, it almost doubles.

Really you should be 19th. There's an attention seeking loon running around telling anyone she bumps into that Chelsea won the league with a squad put together at zero cost.

    lol
Well this squad was put together at zero extra cost from last seasons squad ie our net spend was next to nothing last summer because of money we recouped on David Luiz and Lukaku (Shocking that we got almost £80m just for those two! <yikes><yikes>) thats probably what he was trying to say, but worded it wrongly.

But overall if you factor in our total squad cost, its the third highest in the league, after the 2 Mancs

Thats not the point of the thread though... Point is, if you're 7th on the list then if you're finishing the season 14th then manager has had a shocker no?

yes the gap between top 6 and rest is huge so if you're outside that list and you finish in the top 6 you've done brilliantly, but if youve done worse than its bad.

wrong the point of the thread is astro has the everton lads rolling over and begging for a belly tickle by focusing on everton rather than our club's plight.

Yep, very low net spend over 5 years, but now Martinez has turned up you have the 7th most expensive squad sitting just above the relegation zone <ok>

So if we've spent £4m net in the last 5 years that includes Martinez tenure, and we've somehow managed to end up with a squad value that's up there with the best of them, then it's an act of complete genius, I'm sure you'll agree <ok>

I've looked back as far as 2003, so 12 years of transfer spending, and we've totalled £28m net in that period.

So how pray tell with an actual net spend in 12 years that's equivalent to the smallest window of Brendans net spends at Liverpool, have we ended up with a squad value that is up there with the best of them?

    Absolute genius isn't it.

<laugh> so you go even further back #genius

Let's start simple with this small first step: Martinez has spent over £60m since arriving, and none of those players have been sold

So your squad cost is at least £60m right?

Now think about how many teams in the PL might have cost less than that? Who do you think might be on that list?

Raise your hand when you're ready to move on to also consider all the players Martinez didn't buy <ok>

    They still cost £60m.

Did you write down the definitions of "net spend" and "cost" you were supposed to look up? Use your most colourful crayons to make it easy to read <ok>

    For the hard of thinking.

If you have intangible assets worth £40m and you dispose of them, and then use the revenue to buy fresh intangible assets of the same value, your balance sheet position is unchanged.

The bottom line is that in 12 years whaever our playing squad is worth (on paper) today, it's cost us £28m over that entire period to attain it.
