What about Salford? The average age for a man's health to start declining in England is 63. In Salford, it's 46. Must be to do with living in proximity to that toxic cesspit where the scum play <ok?

To be fair, none of the places mentioned come close to two of the biggest cesspit **** holes in Britain - Methil and Coatbridge.

Coatbridge is the ****ing twilight zone.

Huddersfield for me was always one step away from Hell...going out of the far end of Hell that is.

First time I ever went to Huddersfield it was on a grey, overcast November day and it had just started with drizzling type rain. It would have been enough to send Krusty the Clown on a cigarette smoking bender.

Have never seen a place as so inherently depressing as Huddersfield before or since including the then allegedly worst place in Britain to live, Salford.

I’m surprised the citizens of Huddersfield don’t climb the Arqiva tower and jump off. It’s a horrible city

Thought I would have to read up on South Shields as it couldnt really be that bad. Found these marvellous quotes:

"The main industry in South Shields is shoplifting; other than that there is no noticeable means of making a living, since there is no industry and few offices."

"If you don’t like the sea, beach or river, then the only reason to want to live in South Shields is because you have learning difficulties."

"The pubs in the local area also show little class. The Green Baize, a pub in Tyne Dock serve you as long as your over 10."

I quite like Shields. The beachfront is pretty decent.

North Shields does not appear on your list of possible locations ? Jude.
Last time l was in Shields (place of my birth) it looked like a fookin war zone on a particularly bad fookin war zone day.
I was stood in the street down by the quayside with my Mam, and we were trying to remember the best way to get to where my Great Granny used to live in Coronation Street.
This fella came up to us and said to my Mam, Howay Bonny lass, l know you, don’t l. My Mam ignored him, he came staggering closer and said, Hoy, Bonny lass l know you. jeez you could smell the booze on him from 6 ft away.
He attempted to engage my Mam again, but she had had enough of him by now.
Bonny lass he cried, l know you, oh do you now replies me Mam, yeah and l knew you when you were sober, now hadaway before l get proper radge.
Suffice to say he went on his merry way, lol, l had never heard my Mam speak like that before, it was epic. You can take the lass out of Geordie land, but you can’t take the Geordie out the lass, eh Hinny.

Can't argue with this mind. South Shields is pretty ropey in quite a few areas. Laygate with areas like Marshall Wallis Road and Dacre St etc is shocking the state of it. As someone who has done a few empty properties down that neck for housing associations, I can say its on a par with places like Hendon. The last one we went to was a former whore house with another whore house across the road. You'd think the lads would have been keen but the whores were so ugly none of them wanted any part of it <laugh>

You also have Dock St and all those surrounding areas.

I have to say though some areas of Middlesbrough and Darlington are difficult to beat in terms of scummyness. Just so many users. Loads of the properties down there have needles lying around. These smack heads are a nightmare too as they love finding secret stash places to put the used needles for reuse. The needle sweeps hopefully pick it all up but you can't be sure.

All places have bad areas but they are around the worst in the North East for me.

My folks live in Stockton (Ingleby Barwick), and it seems nice, quiet yes, but very clean and residential. It's just a big outbreak of houses from a main road yes, but there's nothing bad about it. And you've got Yarm just down the road which is a lovely place.

I don't see how you can think Stockton is worse than Boro, which is a grimey dirty hellhole. Stockton doesn't offer much in the way of amenities or sightseeing, so obviously somewhere like Durham's better, but it really isn't that bad, esp compared to some of the other places listed.
