I would say, in all honesty, he is better than Jones, Evans and Smalling, but not by a huge margin, same with Vermaelen.
And certainly wouldn't be the missing piece of the puzzle to shore up your defence.

You can only have him if it is in the contract that he has to keep the "YNWA" on his knuckles... it would be worth selling him to United if your best defender had "YNWA" tattooed on him in a visible place! <ok>

I'd be more concerned with the fact that if they signed Agger, he would be their best defender!

I doubt he regrets it- Agger is a big fan of the club by all accounts. I think that explains the "tears" (if indeed there were some) he wants to go to Barca to get first team football AND play for world's biggest club... but he loves the club.

Like **** he is. Hes the definition of an awful defender. His partner Skrtl is only slightly better than him but the pair are relegation fodder quality as shown by their abysmal defensive partnership last season.

Smalling and Jones are far from brilliant. They would never concede 50+ in a season though. They had Cleverley in front of them ffs.

He isnt good, but lets face it, all your CBs are completely pants, except maybe Jones who looks okay(ish). If you go into the new season with Jones, Evans and Smalling as your CB choices, I dont see United challenging for the title. Top 4 yes, but not the title

24, so some room for improvement, but if he was going to become a great defender we would have at least seen some flashes of brilliance by now....
Evans is 26 so is nearly peaked and likewise, looks fairly drab. Certainly not the level Manchester United should be settling for......

Evans is our Gary Cahill. Solid and effective, but not a leader. Needs an experienced CB beside him to keep him consistent, but does the job well enough to be a regular in a side challenging for the title. Jones is more talented, but lacks the leadership to be great alongside Evans. Think that's why we were in for Vermaelen tbh - his experience allied to Evans' consistency and Jones' talent would have made for a solid back three, if better CBs weren't out there.

Smalling is looking like being no better than a squad player, but could always surprise and push on now Vidic and Rio are out of the picture.
