Snowboarding earlier in the year in Mayrhofen, Austria. Booked straight away to go back this Winter, fantastic place
Short break in Budapest (briefly work related but we stayed on a few days). I'm definitely going back there, loved it
Going away in September, but not booked yet so open to suggestions...anyone? (looking for a break in the sun, but the Caribbean isn't great weather-wise then I don't think)
Taking the tribe, and their partners to New York at Christmas.

Not a fan of LA, but did like Santa Monica and Venice Beach area (which are pretty much attached to LA anyway)

Frome Vegas you've got to do the Grand Canyon. Ideally in a plane rather than chopper so you go further to the best looking rim (oo er)

When people say this it just shows how **** Vegas is. The constant message is the best bit about Vegas is the Grand Canyon, yet it's the same distance as London is from Newcastle. Nobody ever said go to London to see the Angel of the North or Newcastle for the Houses of Parliament.

I'm not a big fan of Vegas, although we had a great time there. Enjoyed playing proper poker in the card rooms (rather than in the main casino against dealers) mind you

To be fair if the Grand Canyon was in Newcastle then people coming to London would visit it, particularly if you just step out of your hotel, get picked up by a car, taken to a little private airport and flown there

There's absolutely nothing stopping people doing that in London for other attractions. You could do it for the Lake District, Snowdonia, Stonehenge etc, etc. But they dont, because London itself has ****loads worth seeing and doing.

That whole North Norfolk coast is brilliant - it's an absolute **** to get to but, well worth it once you're there; proper old school seaside, great food & pubs ....... keep it to yersen though Filey.

nice one, we used Sanctuary Cruises, but they all go in the same area anyway.
different sights at different times of the year I'd imagine but we had full on breeching humpback whales crashing right out of the water...incredible

If any of those places were even a fraction as good as the Grand Canyon and the price of flying to and around them didn't cost thousands then people might consider it.

Its costs thousands because nobody has set up regular services to them from London, because there isn't the demand, because London itself is good, and that's the point.

I think the lack of demand is not because London is good but more that those places aren't anything special. I mean if you're visiting from Europe you've probably already seen then Alps and if you're from North America you've likely already seen the Rockies, no comparison really.

Las Vegas is the closest major city to one of the most spectacular places on earth, of course you're going to want to visit, Las Vegas could be more exciting than New York, London and Paris combined and I'd still leave it for a day to go to the Grand Canyon.

Btw, for the record I'm not a fan of Vegas at all.

If London was the closest major city to one of the seven natural wonders of the world, people would definitely take trips from it to visit the site.

Ibiza for me. I hope to get a few days scuba diving. The Don Pedro ship wreck is the main attraction. I haven't been to Ibiza before, the travel agent said that its nice and quite.

I would recommend anyone to give the H10 Rubicon Palace in Playa Blanca Lanzarote a go, all inclusive Privilege package has to be the best I have come across. Quaility branded drinks, including the mini bar and excellent food.
We never have returned to any hotel before until this one and we have been back 4 times. Great scuba dive centre on site and it is just perfect for me.

So are you suggesting that foreign tourists dont visit Stonehenge?

if it was 300 miles away? I seriously doubt it. They'd stay in London, cos it's brilliant.

No, didn't say that at all

No they wouldn't, if anything it would increase tourism to London if people were able to take a day trip to one of the natural wonders of the world.

Tourists go on day trips from London to Paris, so it can't be that brilliant.

It's all completely hypothetical, cos it's impossible to know, because it isnt the case. However we're detracting from the original argument here - if the best thing about Vegas is something 300 miles away then that says it all.
