So16 votes out of 30 thought we'd finish top 6!!! PS - I wonder how many changed their vote. My prediction was 7-12!!
I suspect some of those votes have been changed. I certainly had us firmly in the bottom half. Beyond hoping that some of the new hires would give us a boost, I just couldn't see where the improvement was coming from following last season. How wrong I was. Credit where it's due to SW, DF and the players.
Mine was 6-10 and I'm also an optimist. With 3 long time PL teams coming down and the money spent by other clubs, I thought we'd struggle to sneak into the play-offs. Remember that the new players were of (then) unknown potential and Aarons was still 'one for the future'.
Agree Rick and I was quietly confident of a top 10 finish. The concensus seems to be 3 more wins to be promoted, but it would be superb to go up as Champions. I'm really surprised by the 3 relegated teams - especially Stoke and I wonder how many players they might lose in the summer??
Looking at the first page of the thread and the bookie's odds at the start of the season what strikes me is just how close they came to getting the bottom six right and how far they were out on the top six.
Are we going to use this thread for next season. If so, I'd predict that we'll be in the bottom 6 but survive. That could improve depending on who we recruit and how we play. It could also get worse if we lose any of our rising stars.
I think I predicted 13-18 originally and thought especially after the Ipshit game that I had been a little optimistic. As the prediction league reflects, I know F all! The thing I was most struggling with was how we were going to score enough goals to do any better than lower mid-table having sold or ostracised all our goal scorers. Well done to the entire footballing side of the club. Job very well done. Bah!
Agreed 100% General and though I predicted top 10 (FML owes me a couple of pints on that one and I owe Dunc a couple, as Marriott scored one more goal than JR!!!), I was feeling rather foolish before the Boro game. I'm also going to the local Bookies to see what odds they're offering on a top 10 finish next season.
You will have to take my word for it because I wasn't on here last summer but I thought that given a fair wind we might scrape the play offs. What I didn't like was the anti Farkeism. It's not just him but the constant sniping at managers who are perceived to not be doing a good job in difficult circumstances, I might call it Canary Call Syndrome. I don't think we will be bottom three, my guess is lower mid table, maybe 12-15. I just hope that if we are bottom three people will remember what Farke has done for this club and not start asking "How long do we give him?"
I'm sure some will be saying that, especially if we get several fixtures against this season's top 6 in the first few weeks!!!
