Listening to Brazil’s show on Talksport. Jamie O’Hara reckons City signing Messi would be a bigger achievement than winning the league. Make of that what you will.
5 years ago you could try and argue that Messi was as close as there was to a guarantee of success. He's 33 now and the figures quoted are stupid, he'll possibly have a couple of years in him as an excellent player and then he'll drift off sharply. The only justification for a club to buy him for these numbers is not just for a peice of silverware but also to have him around youngsters and help their development and finally to send a marker out that they are a huge club who "won the race to sign Messi". I could see Utd going for him on the basis of bringing on their young forwards and to bridge the gap until they're consistent. There's no-one else in the league who I can see it making sense for. He'll stay at Barca. Surely we all know this really.
any club that signs him will have signed him with shirt sales and commercial revenue at the forefront of their thoughts.
