My answer - nowhere, he's one of us now. We have a manager who chose Sunderland and, despite the fact his reputation has been enormously enhanced over the past 2 months, he would have been considered as a top candidate for any top job at any club in the country before he joined Sunderland, including the England job. I consider the man sincere, professional, loyal and of course quite brilliant. What he is not in my opinion is fickle, a glory hunter, a money grabber or disloyal to his avid base of fanatical Sunderland fans and he's loving life in the North East at the moment. He's not a young pup who will have his head turned as has happened with some of the brattish players in this league, my view is that he has started a job at Sunderland and he will see it through simply because he's that sort of bloke. I've read comments on here and in the 'creative' press speculating that he will be off to a bigger job sometime in the future, personally, I don't think so. He's our man, he's a Sunderland man and he's here for the long haul.
Mon has never been that kind of manager. When he was at Whickham Wanderers and leicester, he was approached by much bigger clubs but always turned them down as he was under contract. He is a very loyal man and still an ambitious one. Sunderland is a fabulous blank canvas to build a lasting legacy on, whereas the England job comes as a poisoned chalice. It's a graveyard for managers. If Man utd, Chelsea or Arsenal came knocking I wouldn't give him a hard time for considering them but they won't be coming so no need to worry. Mon 's here in the long term and what's more, he looks to be relishing the task and having a ball.
Hopefully this is the case. I can't help but feel that whatever limited funds we actually had will be freely added to given the results that MoN has achieved to date come next season.
I think the biggest problem we have re spending is the Financial Fair Play thing - I don't know the legalities of it (as I'm no finance expert or lawyer) but apparently there are a number of legal loopholes that can be exploited - we need to spend only what we make in a year so that may limit the amount of money spent - it will also mean that players are worth significantly less than they used to be leaving clubs who've paid excessive amounts for player in a bit of a hole - just my opinion like!!
In answer to the OP, where next for Marty, Riverside Stadium, Middlebrough please log in to view this image
I think there is a small chance he could be offered the England job. The FA could do with some one whiter than white (Harry will turn it down as he knows the journo's won't stop until they uncover all his under the table brown paper bag antics). Man. U etc. Can't really see it at his age tbh. Sunderland is just perfect for the man.
Although Alan Green from BBC Radio has never been one of my favourite presenters, he stated the other day that he has known MON for 30 years and that he is now in the job that he has always wanted..I hope he is right with this one...
I recall similar comments at the time of his appointment, otherwise and basically, he's just a decent bloke who would never cut and run ... like Keane?
At the moment I don't know why anyone would want to be the England manager. The press slate them. You are doomed to fail. Only an English man would want the job surely.
The England job is a poison chalice. I don't think MON would want it , Harry will be damaged goods so that rules him out. Stuart Pearce has gotta be worth a punt.
I know the traditional big sides won't like it but he has the job he always wanted. He is going nowhere. Watch us rise like the phoenix. When you have the exact right chemistry at a football club, then magical things start to happen. The media won't like it. They will make up rubbish to sell papers but don't believe any of it unless it comes from his mouth. Quinny and MON could just be the two smartest, noblest and most respectable men to come out of British and Irish football in the last 30 years. One is off building the fanbase, the other controlling the playing side. The only way is up and the lessening clubs above us are all beginning to shake as they realise that another club is muscling its way in at the table. Sod em all and pass the gravy.
