Has it really been a roller coaster like this on and off the last several years ?

For periods of a few weeks, roughly six months apart.
Usually coinciding with the visits of Royston & Dick Plumb.

The last two times (March & November this year) I gave in to Royston's pressure and Dick took over as moderator. But both times the pair of them left the forum again very soon afterwards, so I picked up the pieces.

They are both welcome back any time, but I won't be leant on by Royston again.
He has a vision of what he believes Not606 Charlton should be - a knockabout forum of banter and lads' stuff, where differing views can be shouted down and folks he doesn't approve of can be laughed at and ridiculed.
He thinks that kind of thing will bring new members & attract a few old ones, thus leading to a revival of some nostalgic 'good old days' golden age.
That view is OK. All opinions are welcome.
But not when used to push the kind of palace revolutions he likes to promote.

During the Summer Royston claimed - in messages that Elfs delivered for him - that he (Nick) could bring back several members who used to post here years ago, and inject new life back to this forum - if I would step down as moderator.
His opinion being that I am responsible for what he sees as a long term decline here.
Three weeks ago, under some pressure, I obliged.
No past members re-appeared as promised. Indeed we effectively lost a couple of long standing and widely respected ones.
Nothing that was offered in those messages was delivered.

I think it's safe to say we've been round on this hamster wheel for the last time.

Hopefully if they come back the personal snipes at people will stop - one more guilty than the other obviously :emoticon-0148-yes:

Q, Why do some posters take an instant dislike to other posters?
A, To save time. :emoticon-0103-cool:

That said I take everyone as I find them, and no one on any message board could ever say anything to trouble me. :emoticon-0138-think

Not an instant dislike between myself and Royston.
Perhaps a gradual parting of ways.
Years ago we had a lot of common ground.
Both Brexiteers, and mostly in agreement about opposing the crooks who ruined our Club over the previous decade.
He is also a dedicated Charlton fan who invests a lot of time and money travelling to away games, as well as most home ones.
And he supported the team & went to games when we were exiled from the mid 1980's to 1992.
Commonly referred to as the 'Selhurst era'.
I have huge respect for that.

Sadly though that respect seems to be a one way thing these days.
I'll never be as prominent or accomplished a supporter as Royston. Nor would I ever claim to be.
But our World Views have diverged. For instance I now regret supporting UKIP and much of what I said during the years after the Referendum.
That was quite a while before I was moderator here. My views were expressed (rather too forcefully I admit) as a regular member.
I'm seeing things differently now.

As for Dick Plumb - we are just oil and water I think.
Faults on both sides.
But he too is a dedicated and well informed supporter who spends much time following the progress of the academy squad.
I admire his knowledge in that regard.

I think the way Nasty Nick hounded you out the other month was a new low even for him!

It wasn't pleasant.
But I made mistakes too, which I'm now trying to learn from.
I hope the events of November will gradually bring about a better Not606 Charlton forum.
Just not by the means he preferred.

Nick is nice as pie face to face. I think that having a different online persona is a slippery slope and will in time damage your mental health.
My internet persona is exactly the same as real life, I'm a right sarky c"@7, but never with malice. :emoticon-0138-think

The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.

That's a big post.

I am sure it will be seen by Dick and Royston. I hope they will respond/react in positive fashion.
