so we have a squad of around 20 players before we sign anyone else. Therefore we can only bring in 3 or 4 players. We need a centre half, left back pacey winger and a striker. Hopefully the young players continue to progress and keep their place in the first team like Essam and Payne. We keep being told how good these youngsters are so they need to play more.
bristol407 Thanks for your reply to my comment on your post. I respect your thoughts - disagreement on other forums can turn nasty - on this forum a difference of opinions is 'healthy.' You will see by my later post that I'm not entirely blaming Fish ( & others e.g. Frampton - to name but one .) Tactics were wrong - team selection was wrong ( when alternatives were available ) We can't get retrospective promotion - so will have to 'forget' last season. Fish did become better towards the end of the season. Hopefully the experience will help him. My gut feeling is that Fish might be good enough @ RB for a team looking to get into the play-offs. However, I want my team to attain a top 3 spot, and I don't think that Fish is ready for that - yet !
I agree brb, from what we saw of Evans, albeit very little in the end, he certainly looked like a very good prospect. I can't speak for Hess' teeam select but the defining moment for me with Evans was the torrid time he got against Southend, where he simply lost his game complete and was taken off a halftime (I think it was Southend), To me this showed that he wasn't quite up for an extended run in the side, but I would have liekd to see a few more substitute apperances just to help his development,
BSG - It wasn't against Southend that you are thinking of. The southend match was televised and was when he came on at half time for Lawrence. If it hadn't been for the fact that the match had been televised then Lawrence probably would have stayed at right back. Anyways that game was when Evans started his run of 7 or 8 games in the team until he unfortunately suffered from a groin strain. After he recovered I don't think he started a game again as Hess preferred Fish.
Agree. Just looked back on the match reviews I write. It was Southend at home that Evans and Essam (along with Payne) were introduced in the second half and the Gills came to life.
Hmmm... not sure who it was against but Evans got some stick from the idiotic section of the Rainham and gave away a penalty... anyway my point stands that he never really recovered from that set back
Erm...was it at a certain one and only home game that I missed last season? Which explains why I don't know. 5-4!!!!!!
paul scally has said the club have offered barry fuller a new contract(offered a couple of weeks ago) but he has not been back in contact with gillingham yet and that they may also take curtis weston back this season after releasing him ? think it's a step backwards should they offer weston a deal after the past three years of underperforming
