One of the reasons they prefer credit cards is that in the event of unforeseens not covered by your policy they will be paid by the CC company whereas your debit card is useless to them if you clean it out.
Debit cards are backed by them. Hence the logo of a credit card company on your debit card. It's no there to look pretty or for free advertising.

Remember the days when people would only use current account cards in online shopping because you could only get whacked to a daily limit of around £300? The banks got into bed with credit card companies to provide backing on larger purchases on debit cards. Obviously, you still can't spend more than is in your debit account. But the backing is there as regards clawing back yer cash in the event goods don't arrive etc.
