It's usually the fans who demand rapid progress and have unrealistically high expectations. But in our case, I feel Nicola has contributed to this by giving the impression of a man in a hurry and announcing the aim of a Premiership place within 5yrs. It's great to have an ambitious board but some fans need little encouragement to think that even more should be done regardless of where we started from two seasons ago. Progress will never be quick enough for some but we have all been led to believe we WILL be back in the Prem sooner rather than later.
People may say I lack ambition but I will be happy as long as we are still in the Champ this time next year. Anything more is a bonus in my eyes. Staying in the devision and finishing above pompey would be bliss for me!
Beddytare, I think you may have misconscrued the context of my original post. I was not saying "how long they got", but the opposite. I was I am sure, agreeing with you and expressing concern that too many people will be judging them too early. I want thme left alone to give us some stability.
fatletiss.........I was in my own way agreeing with you.......Just not a very well written reply. Sorry about that!!
Exactly. Also can't underestimate the fact that FC Gallen are competitive match-ready. It'd be different if we had played them in place of the yeovil match.
Agreed with most of the posters above who accept we'll need a while to settle and if you look at the teams we'll be competing against, anything above 15th might yet prove OK. Remember the posts on 606 in March and even April of this year which raged on using words like "poor" and "unacceptable" because we drew somewhere? These are the guys who will be starting the witch-hunt against Adders in September, I bet. This is a different league lads!
I went to the Rochdale game about that time and couldn't believe the vitriol towards the team; we werent actually that bad and dominated lots with loads of chances; same away to Walsall.
I think people will take a while to turn on Adkins if we start poorly, but I don't even think it will take until the end of September for people to start banging on about why we didn't splash the cash in the summer and basically did a Leicester. Just look at what happened earlier this year when we had a bit of a stutter around February time - so many people were banging on about how they couldn't believe that we'd only brought in Forte and N'Guessan in the transfer window, and that the failure to spend big would ultimately prevent us from getting promoted. Personally, considering I'm only expecting a 14th - 17th placed finish with this current squad, I don't think I'll be turning on the team any time soon! (Even if we're in the bottom three after eight games, they'll still be a lot of scope to still get that 14th - 17th finish).
