(Why am I on this thread again?) A goal that comes from one single attack during an entire game is unusual. Markedly unusual, one might say. As has been said more than once - the goal itself might not have a freakish quality to it but the fact that it has been scored, given the context of the game, is unusual. What is usual is for a team to build up pressure, have a few attacks, one or two of which lead to a goal. That is what is usual. There are subtleties to language aren't there Boo Boo? Aaanyway - I've got a brick wall I've got to teach algebra to now...
Well, seeing as you like maths: Bayern 35 shots, 8 on target - 27 off target. 8 on is not bad but 27 off is poor but I concede at least they got them off in the first place. Chelsea 9 shots, 3 on target - 6 off target. Not the greatest night for shots away but we had a better on target to off target ratio than Bayern (33% o 23%). Bayern 8 shots on target - 1 goal. Bayern are either lousy convertors or our defence is brilliant, or a combination of both. Either way Bayern created more opportunities than Chelsea. Chelsea 3 shots on target 1 goal. We are either ruthless converters or Bayerns defence is tomtit, or a combination of both. Either way we converted better than Bayern. Possession was 56/44 their way, fair do's but not untypical of a top level Prem match in which either side could have won. Obviously we can do corners, offsides, passes attempted, passes completed but we've not got time as you have a wall to talk to. Ultimately though, we were not only away from home but we were in Bayerns backyard and drew 1-1. You have to concede that that is not a bad result at all. I would suggest that if Spurs had pulled that result down then you would have been a very happy chappy indeed. And then the pen's; we put more in which was because we were more skilled in taking them and saving them. We won. Hope you guys do one day too - that'll be another great result for English footy.
Not a great night for shots away?? Oh well, look on the bright side, it may be piss poor, but it's still far better than you managed against Barca where you neede sat- nav to find your way over the halfway line!
A good time to play them comes into it, Bayern bossed City, but were on a run of 4 straight defeats before the Final, with Dortmund rubbing their noses in it with a domestic double. The woeful uncomposed finishing bearing that out.
Well, to answer criticism re our lack of attacking football this is interesting. Our high positive goal difference indicates that over the years we must have done ok. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/15116/7773572/The-20-year-table
Hardly the point is it? The barrage of criticism was for your tactics and huge great fortune against Barca & Bayern, not for your goal scoring record over the last 20 years!
You use a 20 year table as an argument to how well you played in your most recent 90 minute match? With logic like that there really is little point bothering, so i'm out.
Very, very strange behaviour from our boy Boo Boo. Yeah - the other argument that was floating around from Bloo was that cos Chelsea have done well in the CL in the past (a final, semis, continual qualification) then that meant they deserved to win the game on Saturday. Have to agree with Spurfectionist here: Your arguments don't bear a moment's scrutiny and for that reason I'm oot!
The 20 year table thing I can understand, as that doesnt have a bearing on this seasons performance alone. But you dont think the fact that the Chelsea players have gotten so close to winning the comp so many times means they deserve to win it alteast once? Lost a final on Penalties, lost a semi to a goal that never was, lost another semi on pens, lost another semi due to incompetent refereeing. The only time we well and truly didnt turn up and deserved to lose was against Inter in 2010.
It is going to be a long sad summer for you guys if you don't move on. It's over and done with and all your bleating ain't gonna change it. Happy summer
Let us get on with it and bugger off to your board then. Its not as if we're bleating on your turf. Get over it.
Beat me to it, Spurfectionist. Why are they even still here? Obviously not cos the arguments they have are so fantastic they simply can't hold back. CPofL is even turning up on other threads over here. Looks like we might have a little Chelsea pet who's adopted us. I also want to point out that I've not really been bleating about the result on Saturday. Chelsea were massively lucky through their run in general and on Saturday but frankly Bayern were also a little disappointing (I swear I've never seen Ribery be very good). No - I've just found this a very apt time to vent some of my hatred of Chelsea. Which is (as I've shown) a very reasonable position to take.
They aren't real fans of their club as you will notice the "supporters" that camp on our board get more pleasure out of trying to wind up fans, and gloating to us or liverpool fans while the real chelsea fans get the banter now and then but are more concerned about their actual club.
If he doesn't stop yapping soon we'll have him neutered and leave him in a box on the doorstep of Battersea Dogs Home
Mercifully away from Chelsea, i agree about Ribery. I don't think i've ever seen him have a good game. Him and Robben had some sort of mental block about crossing the ball in the final. I've never seen Gomez have a good game either. Admittedly i've only seen about 4 but for someone that scores 40odd goals in a season i'd expect at least one of those 4 to be a decent performance. Weren't we linked with Gomez once upon a time a couple of years back before he got "good"? His stats suggest we missed a trick but from what i've seen we dodged a bullet. Maybe some Spurs fans over there might have helped out the manager: Robben, Robben, he plays on the left. Ribery, Ribery, he plays on the right
Muller didn't really excel either. It's very difficult to play against a team that sets up so narrow and defensive, atleast when it's done well. I don't think we remember any of our players having a good game against Sunderland for example.
How I saw it, was that Muller had plenty of the ball, the final one just not quite coming off...sounds a bit familiar that! Bayern looked awful when he was (wrongly) subbed, his replacement being a DM, which opened up the MF for the first time in Chelsea's favour.
Brilliant! *** That Battersea thing is a nightmare - what a frigging ugly backdrop for a stadium - nasty! *** Seriously guys - have a great season next time round and looking forward to playing you. Cheers
