http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/arti...an-gaston-ramirez-liverpool-away-2765106.aspx Koeman says Ramirez is working hard and deserved a chance (even though he is not first choice).
When I saw him in the tunnel before the game I made a comment that I couldn't imagine any set of circumstances that would get him on the pitch so why bother bringing him. I know nothing!
Yeah I really disagree with the thought that he doesn't put effort in until he wants a new contract. He knows by doing that he is risking his career and a player of his age and quality would have ambition rather than just sitting on a bench earning good money before falling into obscurity before he reaches his peak. Injuries along with suitability to the league have been the main reason he hasn't impressed.
Much as we all love Gaston, we can't go giving out contracts based on one subs appearance. Otherwise Jonathan Forte would still be enjoying the benefits of his 10 year contract extension!
Having read the article on the OS, I want to retract what I said about him only playing for a contract. The quotes on there prove that he is a decent guy who is working hard. Fair play, I hope he takes off, I really do
We have desperately needed a flair player in that position. The moments when he has shone or Djuricic showed some potential have been really exciting. Fingers crossed that he has put his injury woes behind him. He seems a genuine, nice guy and he still has some great years playing ahead of him. He was a real coup to secure and has cost an arm and two legs so who wouldnt want him to start delivering the goods. Our own little Coutinho (I can dream).
I agree with all of that, but you give the impression that Gaston is 27-29. He's actually 24. He's got a good 8-10 years.
Watching Liverpool, Sunday, I was envious of the fact that they started with two midfield players (Twatbeard and Couthino), who can receive the ball with their backs to the defenders, yet turn on a sixpence and drive forward with the ball. Djuricic showed that he could do that and so can Ramirez. Trouble is these two, like the Liverpool two, struggle to last and make an impact for lengthy periods. If Gaston is prepared to take a pay cut, and given his age, I'd be happy for him to stay on.
Have to admit I didn't realise Gaston was only 24. I have been disappointed with his performances thus far (Liverpool aside). I don't think anyone should doubt his ability as there is little doubt he has a good football brain. As others have Said he is injury prone so he has not had a decent run of games to show his worth. His adjustment to the premier has therefore been prolonged. So bear in mind his year at Hull that play a different style of football. In truth he is still adjusting to the premier league and our style of play with in it. Also bear in mind this will be his 4/5th manager he has had to work with in the 3 years or so he has been over here. That on its own is enough problems without the adjustment necessary for playing in the premier. So to be fair the player hasn't had the best of chances to show his worth in my opinion, so maybe a short add on contract this time to give him the chance I think he deserves, maybe is the way to go?
I like what Gaston's saying. Good man. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/arti...-pre-southampton-aston-villa-cup-2768644.aspx
Love his attitude....he feels he owes Saints after all we've done for him...I bet most players would somehow turn it round and make out that they are hard done by/not given a chance/victimised (delete as applicable).
Yes, I read similar stuff last night and over the last couple of days about Gaston. There is a fair bit of speculation about him going to Serie A, either in the New Year or Summer, when his contract ends. But I honestly think he doesn't want to leave.
Still saying the right things - http://mobile.saintsfc.co.uk/news/a...pton-aston-villa-capital-one-cup-2770422.aspx
My mate took the proverbial when I was clearly so pleased to see Gaston on Sunday. But he showed in the short time he was on the pitch that he is an intelligent player with real skill. From where I was stood, there was a glorious moment when I thought his header had gone in unaided. If you watch him with the other players he is clearly still a popular figure; he has never bad-mouthed the club, even after he'd been sent off to Hull, poor lad; indeed his verbal contributions are always positive. I would love to see him come good. He is a truly talented player. If anyone can turn him round, Ronald can! Get to it Ron.
Yeah, that was really good. And Graziano did an airshot [I think they call them] and promptly stayed on the ground as he was soooo embarrassed. If Pelle had hit the back of the net with that one we could have been laughing our socks off for so many reasons.
