Even though I'd watched them for a fair few years I believe it was feb 1999 - We beat brentford at brentford 2-0 and I believe that moved us from 92nd to 91st in the league - it was a great day and I also started a chant 'are you Scarborough in disguise' which amazingly half the stand started singing...
My Dad was in the Army, so I spent the first 8 years of my life in other parts of the world but my Dad was from Barton and was a big City fan (despite having the option of Grimsby who at that time were in the top division), so when we came back and settled in Pocklington in 1969 (hence username) one of the first things he did was take me to BP. I've been hooked ever since, although I'm on the South Bank myself these days. I still remember Saturday mornings not going quick enough because I just couldn't wait to get to the games!
City v Everton 3rd Round FA Cup at Boothferry Park 1-1 Billy Wilkinson cracker at Bunkers.First time in a big crowd.I had been before but first time I got that nervous feeling in my gut.,
For me it wasnt my first game. I was aged around 5 or 6 I guess so probably about 81 / 82. I went with my uncle to a lower league match, I think against Cambridge, as my my dad was a City glory supporter cum eggchaser and had deserted them. I wont lie, I was bored ****less. I seem to recall that Ian Botham was playing for Scunny in my second game. I got the hots after promotion under Brian Horton to what is now the championship and later fell in love that very same 85 / 86 season. I dont know what it was that made me do it, I think it was a combination of rallying against the Liverpool supporting glory hunters at school and Billy Askew's flame-like hair. Whatever it was, there was no going back. Sadly, the events of this last week mean I now feel less connected to the club than at any point in the previous 28 years.
About the same time as Oregon 1964-65 season, me dad took me I was about 8 years old and seeing that BP for the first time was magic and I was hooked. Oh and yes first night under floodlights was like a life changing moment my jaw dropped and my eyes were as big as dinner plates, been a fanatic ever since
1966 when football was so easy and Waggy and Chillo were in there pomp. My dad would not take me before that as the well @ boothferry park was no place for a kid. Got season pass for the north stand seats.
