I guess that makes me the oldest so far! I did not start watching them - We listened to them on the radio!!! I come from a family of race car drivers, and remember, if I did not go to the races with my dad, sitting on the radio with my grandmother and all the women in the family with rosaries in their hands praying so my dad would not get killed - did not enjoy that very much. Before I was 10 and they took me to the races, I hated it because my ears hurt - On my last medical exam (two weeks ago), the doctor said I had massive ear loss (guess why??). Eventually, the noise did not bother me that much; and have been enjoying F1 and all types of racing since mid 60's.
pretty much as soon as I was born, Dad was always a fan, so used to sit me down to watch too... Now its me who makes him watch racing series hes never seen before!
Good mix of stories here, nice to see everyone has their own reasons. Most are linked to a fathers input which is unsurprising
Well im a relatively young lad, My first memories of F1 are of the orange arrows car driving around Monaco in 01, i then followed it from then, watching more and more every year, another early memory is the 2005 US grand prix with the michelin issue, and the six car race. Im following fully since 2006 and im not just a golden f1 member yet
Always loved car racing, F1 since the late 70's, but my favourite motorsport was probably Rallycross, watching Martin Schanche either beat everyone or smash into them, wait for them to get out of their car, and then beat them. He was one of my favourite racers, and wore his heart on his sleeve.
Hi all, never seen this thread before. I suppose it's a better way to get to know users. Anyway. I have watched F1 for quite a while now. Earliest memory is probably Mansell's world title win, even though I was only 5, I still remember my dad sitting me on his knee to watch him win the title. During my passing interest I always liked Mika Hakkinen. I haven't properly followed it though, as a firm fan, until about the 2006 season, where I became a huge Kubica and Raikkonen fan. Since then I have watched pretty much every race. I wouldn't say I'm extremely knowledgeable about the sport. But I know enough to hold a decent conversation.
