Of our available squad. .........................McGregor .............Aina......Dawson......Hector Bowen..Evandro..meyler..Larson..Grosicki ................,,....Dicko..Campbell
Genuinely not sure how good the new lads are so tough to comment, at the moment and give how they played, the 11 who started against Bolton would be my preferred starting 11 though I'd hope that a number of the new lads would be better options on what we have, i'd like to think Kingsley will play lwb, that Dicko or Campbell will be an improvement up top on Dio and that any one of the numerous CMs we have will push Meyler and Larson for a CM place.
McGregor Hector....Dawson....Mazuch Aina........Meyler......Irvine.......Kingsley Bowen..............Grosicki Campbell Haven't seen Mazuch play much so maybe Tomori in there instead if he's a better player.
McGregor Hector....Dawson....Mazuch Aina........Evandro/Larsson......Irvine.......Kingsley Grosicki..............Bowen Campbell Hard to tell really without seeing the new lads play. I think Evandro is a tidy little player but he needs to stay fit. Would happily see Toral in midfield as well. Don't like leaving Meyler out as he's a favourite of mine and would go through a brick wall for us.
...........the 1982 Brazil world-cup side.....awesome..... but for a dodgy keeper they would have won the WC.
--------------------McGregor-------------- --------Dawson----Hector-----Tomori------- Aina--------Irvine-------Toral-----------Kingsley -------------Grosicki-----Dicko------Bowen Campbell coming back and Tomori coming in gives us a bit more depth, Meyler and Larsson off the bench is useful and Evandro gives us something different. Diomande on the bench is ample cover too. Hopefully Clark can continue to battle and can make appearances against lower Championship teams so his progression doesn't stall.
We have one true game breaker, Grosicki, who will cause FBs fits in this Division if his head is right and he plays to his potential. But he needs to play on the right, his natural position. His speed, with the speedy Aina backing him up, and either Campbell or Dicko in the middle, and Bowen on the left, gives us our best attacking threat in years. The injury-prone Dawson's durability is a major question mark at the back, so Mazuch needs to recover fast. Meyler needs to start alongside Irvine or Toral in MF, with Stewart out for two months, and Kingsley or Diomande on the left. McGregor has played well with Mannion a promising back up. If we can stay free of more injuries a top-6 place is quite possible McGregor Dawson Hector Tomori Aina Meyler Irvine Kingsley Grosicki Campbell Bowen Mannion, Mazuch, Larsson, Toral, Evandro, Diomande, Dicko
Marshall Hector Dawson Kingsley Larsson, Hendriksen, Irvine Grosicki Bowen Campbell Dicko Subs: Greggy, Tomori ,Aina, Meyler, Toral, Dio, Mazuch. Stewart, Evandro
Do u think two speed merchants on the same side works Canada? Is it not better to have Grosicki left cutting in and Aina right, both of them not interested in defending but mustard going forward, capable of getting round the back of defences, dragging defenders wide opening spaces up, good crossers etc.
I actually like the idea of overloading the right side with speed Arnie. I can see Slutsky switching Grosicki/Bowens wings throughout our games...confusing defenses and posing a real headache to opposing coaches. Grosicki has the ability to leave most Championship full backs for dead simply with his speed on the outside but he is forced to pass with the outside of his right foot, which worked brilliantly twice against Bolton on the Diomande goal and Bowens header, but he is forced to cut inside to shoot on goal whereas on the right he could just drive to goal and shoot or square the ball to an open man. So yes I do think Grosicki with Aina cutting in or overlapping on the same side, pulling defenders out of position as you say, could work.
I think Bowen and Grosicki both look better on the right, but they'll mainly keep playing as they are, as someone has to play on the left and Grosicki prefers it there.
Greegsy Hector Dawson Mazuch Aina Meyler Irvine Kingsley Bowen Diomande growshitski Not sure if 3-4-3 will work against the better teams. But Leo seems to want to play it. If FC is fit then he plays instead of dio.
Never made sense why Grosicki prefers playing on the left, his main asset is using his speed to get in behind and lay a cross across the goal which means he has to stop and cut back on the left, giving defenders a chance to catch up. I don't know if it's something to do with him standing defenders up and dragging it past them though, which is something he seems to do a lot.
Don't know nowt about any of the new chaps (Larsson excepted). Kingsley gets in my team on account of being the only left back we have.
My guess is he likes the glory of scoring goals and is more likely to get opportunities when cutting inside
Can Toral play in a relatively deep role (ie as one of two CMs in the formation used against Bolton)? If not, he'd presumably be better suited to a 4-2-3-1 as the central player of the 3.
Can't honestly see Irvine playing much of a part in the Derby game, the Australian next wc qualifier isn't till Tuesday , by the looks of it, he won't arrive back in the UK till Thursday at the earliest.
