We're actually keeping the ball alot better this season than we were last season and this has alot to do with Skuse and McGoldrick upfront but we don't have enough purpose in our play is the problem not so much keeping the ball from what I've seen this season.

No WCP, first game I've seen was the Leeds one, and I was thoroughly disappointed - all the games have been down south so far. My season gets underway against Wigan on 22nd September <ok>

Whilst I'm arguing against Hampy this is a bit too far, it was decent but not brilliant, I'd say most of our good passing came from having so much space down the flanks, it was decent enough but I saw us play alot better offensively and passing (most games) under Jewell

Whilst I completely agree with this statement, I do wonder why this gets wavered at him so much when most of our players are never consistent except Edwards who is consistenly anonymous, Murphy is inconsistant, Hyam is inconsistent etc etc. My belief is that if he's on the pitch he may give the ball away a few times but he'll likely create a clear goalscoring chance (not a half chance) either for himself or others at least once a match and we don't have someone like that in our squad!!

Absolutely dozens. Last season was the first season I got to less than a dozen games, I don't think I went to more than four or five - and I was looking forward to 15 or so this season, but I'll rethink that if we carry on this form.

You must've had memory loss then Saturdays games was nowhere near as bad as most of Keanes games. During his tenure I actually realised why the phrase 'I'd rather watch paint dry' is used!!!

PTC 100% agree on the Keane paint watching statement. Those days were painful beyond belief and it really tested my support making the trip to PR each saturday knowing in advance that it was going to be a miserable afternoon, win, lose or draw. Like you I also thought we played better 'football' under Jewell but we were unable to turn pretty football into decent results
The JET problem for me is not so much the inconsistency but the fact he is totally anonymous when he is having an off day. You mention Murphy and Hyam etc as being inconsistant but they will never going missing in games despite not having great performances. With a poor JET display its like having only 10 players on the pitch. Possibly we never gave him enough chances in a central role so we may have let him down aswell.

My biggest frustration/concern so far this season is that we have ultimately been not very dissimilar from the team of early/mid last year (under Jewell..)

We play well for a short spell, take the lead and then lose 2-1 or prove to be a bit too brittle to last the 90 (something we did all too often under Jewell that it pretty much became "our thing")

I know after 4 games it is far too early to really gauge how the season will pan out, but I haven't seen the qualities that made us so difficult to beat last season in quite such abundance this time out and that is what is frustrating.

Maybe once we start to play like a Mick McCarthy team again we'll begin to improve but we haven't really done that so far this season.

I still think we look pretty decent defensively, perhaps not quite so solid but alot better than we were under Jewell, I think this is mainly because Mick is clearly asking the full backs to get forwards alot more and Hewitt isn't quite so adept defensively as Stearman but he's certainly a better allrounder which IMO you want from a fullback, plus he's learning his trade. Most of the goals we've conceded this season have been fairly unlucky, I haven't watched them and thought 'what are you doing' like I did last season!!

It's just when we go behind, we don't really step up the game and we really lack creativity (something we didn't under Jewell). I see what you're trying to say KOPR but I think these teams are completely different currently.

I don't think we have a team who's capable of producing a perfomance as good as the team we had last season but at the same time I don't think we have a team who's capable of performing as badly.

Well imo we are playing much better football than i've seen us play for a good few years, i've seen a few of the games this season and have so far been impressed with the commitment and team spirit.

I'm not slating you for not going to games but i do think that watching a game 'in the flesh' gives a more rounded view and certainly i don't give any credence to Newspaper ratings, this is why when i have not been to many games i personally take season ticket holders/regular attendees views as more informative.

    Many Thanks

    WCP.....

No I don't go on press stuff but one full game out of four is plenty to make generalisations about. I find Mick Mills' knowledge of the game fascinating but i dont let it paint a picture for me. I think when you've been watching football for a long time and you follow a team and know most of the players you can read between the lines. What happens is I think you're less reactive and see longer term patterns. Also, people who only go to home games aren't getting the full picture anyway - away games are almost like a different sport altogether.

I Personally think that one Game watched on TV out of four is not really enough to make generalisations about a team, and you also say that you know the players well enough to be able to read between the lines about them but with alot of new players i don't really get ya.

Anyway my point was that everyone is entitled to their opinion but individualistically i put more weight in the views of people that have seen more games but thats just me......

I agree to a point Weighty but then I know people who watch every single town game and talk absolute rubbish and then others can watch a half on the tele and sum up our situation pretty well. It's just about opinions really

What new players?? The only new player to start Saturday was Skuse, who has been a first team regular at Brizzle for donkeys years... *confused*

Maybe I don't know all our players as well as I thought I did?!

In all seriousness, it's pretty insulting and there's **** all point in most of us posting on here if the opinion of season ticket holders is all that counts <doh>

Our managers watch every game AND take training five days a week and they don't have any more clue what to do than I do from up here in Yorkshire.

Skuse may of been a regular for Bristol but i didn't get to many of their games to judge him, also Hewitt is new to the line up along with Tabb,McGoldrick,Anderson,Tunnicliff,Berra,Verseli,Gerkin and Taylor.

Are you actually insulted..........all i did was give my opinion on things and said that others can do the same, but i tend to listen to people that have gained more information which to me makes sense.

That's interesting, I'm sure Tabb and McGoldrick were with us last season. I must know so little about our team I didn't even realise they were new to the side. What did you make of the performances of Berra, Verseli, Gerkin then? Kind of shooting down your own argument really... <doh>

Well Tabb has only played 13 games and McGoldrick only a few more than that.

What did you make of the performances of Berra, Verseli, Gerkin then?

Berra he has looked ok coming of the bench Verseli started a little dodgy against Colchester but slowly got better and from what i've seen of Gerken he looks a capable keeper. I forgot to mention Mings who was cack against Reading by the way.

Kind of shooting down your own argument really

Not really sure what you mean Hamps i think you have tried to steer the debate to somewhere that you think you have the high ground.<doh>

All i have said is while everyone is entitled to an opinion i put more weight behind the opinion of people with more information.

When i ask how good a film is i'll put more faith in the review of someone that has seen the whole film and not just the trailer.........does that make sense or not???

Today's line up sort of proves that I do know exactly what I'm talking about.

Ed Upson scored a sweet set piece and Connor Wickham grabbed a couple of goals too as if to underline the point of this particular thread.

Why not quit while you're behind on this one Weighty <ok>
