That would mean that Liverpool have to put in an offer first, something they have agreed not to do, otherwise it would be blindingly obvious tapping up. I think Liverpool will carry on, for a while, with the more subtle form of tapping up that they are currently pursuing.
If Joe Allen goes to Liverpool then it proved that this gentlemans agreement thing isn't worth the paper it's written on. It would also show Rodgers and Liverpool FC have no credibility. It would be a shame to see a club once so great to have sunk to new depths to break such agreement. Do I think it will happen? Oh yes !
I sense there's still mixed feelings about Rogers departure and it's probably in the balance what sort of a reception he'll get when we play Liverpool. If he swipes Allen now, I think the balance will be tipped in favour of a hostile atmosphere when he returns to the Liberty
Here's Rodgers on Allen, about half way down the article. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/footba...ks-silence-on-joe-allen-links-91466-31428215/ Nonsense. If he comes to Liverpool it means another team has made a bid, he has been offered to clubs or he has asked to speak to interested parties.
Correct. Rodgers cannot - and will not - speak to Allen until one of the above criteria is met. May well happen but Allen can't be 'cold called'.
thats right and he wont and thats why allen has a difficult decision to make as the gentlemans agreement has nothing to do with him whatsoever. he is protected by the players union, I hope he will stay with us but if he feels that he has the oppertunity to go to a bigger club then he could put in a transfer request and the board would have to look at it...they can of course turn him down flat but that would not be the right thing to do in this case. If it was another club on par with us yes but for a bigger club then if he really wants to go then we should sell him for as much as we can with add ons. Its unproffecional to stop a player from progressing in his career .....i hope he stays...
Since Allen is immersed in the Olympic program, I wonder just how aware he is of the buzz and bullshit filling the media.
Course he is. They have computers, laptops, iPads and so on... And hours between media/training sessions to kill. I wonder how many footballers google themselves and check fan forums... They might not like what they see.
Rodgers, who succeeded the sacked Kenny Dalglish this summer, said when talking about Allen while on a pre-season tour in the USA: "I have a great relationship with Swansea but if there is a market for any of the players, I would like to be in that market. "They respect that. He is a very talented player, which everyone knows but there is nothing more at the moment. When players come to a club such as Liverpool, it's never straightforward. "There are always other barriers and difficulties. At this moment, there are ongoing negotiations on a few targets. "We hope we're close to some deals. I need to evaluate the players we have and assess the squad and bring some in to bring freshness to the group. "As a manager you want them in sooner rather than later but the main thing is to get them in before the beginning of the season. If we do that, our job will be done." Wonderful man Well make the bastard pay the big monies Huw .Just think if this does happen ,out of rodgers leaving etc and a potential sale of Joe for 15.million we'll have made over 20 million out of Liverpool , What price success ?
For me the bottom line is that we only want players who want to be here. If you don't, thanks for the service now **** off.
Well i would not go as far as saying Fcuk off but i know what you mean I look at it as a big step forward and an oppertunity that may be to much to just say no. I hoping he thinks that maybe this is not the right time for him but i very much doubt that. If we end up agreeing to sell him then i would hope we all give him our blessing as at the end of the day he has worked very hard for a big club or clubs to aknowllege what a good young player he has become.....
If I'm HJ and Pool make a silly money offer for Allen, I turn to ML and I ask who do we replace him with for that sort money and are they likely to be available. If ML says nobody at that price point, I say no thank you to Pool and switch my phone off. Otherwise I go shopping and if I seal the deal on the new guy then I go and squeeze Pool for a little more and make the sale. The only thing that scuppers this is if Allen has a release clause in his contract at some money value and gets his head turned ... And BR would know what this release point is. Which actually makes me think that players' contracts should be sealed from the eyes of the current manger to prevent this type of interference.
Spot on Yankee. If Liverpool bid big, HJ ust ask ML wether to can improve that position with the mone that's come in. If ML thinks we can't improve, let alone match what we have in Allen, it's a big fat no. I'd like to think we wouldn't sell Joe even if they bid that high, not unless he himself asks for permission to speak.
