if we ever play you again?

its that sort of nonsense that time and time again detracts from any credibility the budgies may have.

The trouble is that you're forever using Town as a yardstick. They're in the Champ so 17th in the Prem will do. We beat them 9-2 so we must be great. Town fans don't do that, we are more concerned with our own fortunes and just look over our shoulder once in a while to revel in your misfortune and ineptitude. We can't really do that at the moment, but none of us are losing any sleep because our club doesn't revolve around yours.

thats not true. past history should not be dismissed and you are right to be proud that your team has achieved so much for such a small and tragic town, but it doesn't effect your club right now. the fact you won something 30 years ago doesn't mean players are going to join you, it doesn't mean you are guaranteed to gain promotion. what matters is how you are doing right now. we are doing very well, thanks for asking...

Paul Jewell inherited Steve Bruce's Wigan team?

I'm loving these posts Superman, stinks of you trying to convince yourself you will be okay for the coming season. I can just imagine you rocking back and forward as you type.

sven, i am in a rocking chair in my defence! ;)

the point i am making is not that jewell is rubbish cos he isn't. more that he isn't a great manager - he is middle-of-the-road. nobody really wants him, he'll do ok for you but he isn't going to make you into a top notch team, even at championship level.

First sensible thing you have said in ages Superman! Hoorah!

Yes we are still short of a RB, a CB, a central midfielder and another quality striker.

Our first XI is capable of mounting s challenge now but it's largely dependent on players staying fit and whether Stockdale is recalled.

There is still another month left of the window though and I could see a few more coming in including Bullard. There seems to be a game of chicken being played with Hull but as the window approaches they may decide to cut the rope free.

al, its on the city board... how come if city fans do it its not allowed but its ok for ipswich fans to do so? you gave us grief when we were relegated to league one (quite fairly) so its our turn to dish some of our own out.

Supers now that you are on here does that mean that 12 yards has finally closed down? I guess there are no Ipswich fans on there to spout your nonsense to! <laugh>

yorkie, thanks for bringing it back to football!

surely you don't want bullard back after what he's been up to (allegedly)? can't agree with you that your first eleven is strong enough to compete for promotion - i assume you mean play offs right? i fail to see where you have improved your team. correct me if i'm wrong but you've lost mcauley, bullard, wickham and norris and replaced them with sicknote ingimarsson, bowyer (could do well but won't score as many as norris), chopra (will net 15 or so max) and err, thats it really! wickham will be easily replaced because he wasn't that impressive but until you replace bullard's craft, norris' goals and sign a back four you are going to struggle, hence i predict mid-table again (quelle surprise)

Guru - you're like a broken record! Let me try and patiently explain, our most recent league meeting is current and active, something that happened in 1978 isn't!

Do you understand or do we have to draw pictures?

We have, along with Foster at Birmingham, the best keeper in the Championship.

A back four of Edwards, Ingirmarsson, Delaney, Cresswell will do us but no room for injuries.

    Carson, Leadbitter, Bowyer, Martin

    JET Chops

That side is easily good enough to make the play offs - and with lots of time for permanent transfers, loan signings in September and another transfer window we might do enough to go up auto this season.

My bet will be on just outside the top six though, there are too many other sides with a head start who have at least the same quality.

Guru's right though - you can't pick and choose what's relevant. Our history is relevant to us. If you had any it would be to you too.

Supers Its always a pleasure to see you on this forum but alas this has become another tedious thread where there is too much heat but not enough light! The premise of our arguement is that Norwich will struggle next year with the team you have assembled. Momentum from winning League 1 took you to back to back promotions for which I applaud you. But the cold hard facts are that the CCC was shockingly poor last year compared to the year before when we had Newcastle and West Brom in the CCC. We have been very poor ever since Joe Royle left and realistically we have another 2 seasons in this league before we are genuine promotion contenders. We will catch you on the way down as we are going on the way up. Since the history of rivalry first started between our 2 clubs it has always worked out liked that and there is absolutely no reason to suppose that it wont continue. We thought 10 years ago when we were streets ahead of you that the cycle would be broken but alas it wasn't. Just take the yella and green tinted specs off once in a while!

agree about the keeper yorkie. i'm surprised he isn't starting for fulham these days... just shows how good schwarzer is i suppose! back four is dreadful. cresswell is a terrible defender - you'd be better off playing him left wing. he strikes a decent set pice though. edwards is a winger, not a right back in a million years. ingimarsson if fit is ok but won't be and don't get me started on that donkey you have next to him. he reminds me the ginger pele but without the ability...

carson, don't know enough about as only seen him against us at the portaloo where he was not alone in being dreadful. leadbitter - average, bowyer - decent, martin - average at best...

chopra will score goals even if the service isn't great, which it doesn't look like it will be with that midfield. however, it is a bit of a myth that he gets 20 a season. indeed, check his record - he has only reached double figures twice at that level in his career. if fit, he'll get anywhere between 7-17 goals. jet is the epitome of an enigma. can look world class one second and then be conference level for the 89 minutes, 59 seconds. he has ability but his arrogance and attitude has left fans of loan clubs baffled. i suppose he is a gamble which might come off but i can't see it myself. time will tell on that one.

after that, you really are down to the bare bones though yorkie!

warky, of course football runs in cycles. but sometimes cycles can last longer than others. one day, we will be below you again. it might be in two years time it might be ten or twenty but it will happen one day. likewise, you can't assume that because football runs in cycles that you will go back ahead of us at the click of a switch, which seems to be what a number of your clan are predicting. your club is a long way behind at the moment and i'm of the belief that should we go down next season we would come straight back up again. what i do know is that we are still on our upward curve. we have momentum and belief - even if that belief proves to be futile in the end, it will take us a long way. i've never had as much confidence in a city team as i do right now. i'm usually an optimist but also a realist at heart. my realist side says this season will be tough but i also have the belief that my team do - that we are a very good side who can stay up. nothing wrong with that.

I think you underestimate the changes PJ has made to the playing squad. You might not rate Chopra but he is the striker we have been missing since Bent left and in PJ we have a manager who can get the best out of him and other players.

Norris did nothing but score once in a while and run around, Bowyer is ten times the player Norris is and on a free for one or two seasons will be a key player.
