2005/6 was Joes last season with us, which would coincide with Gorman being at the helm for you. I can't remember specifically if he played against you lot, but I suspect he would have based on the fact he appears to have played a full season (voted L2 Player of the Year).
I went to RGS Ron. Awful place then and I didn't cover myself in glory. Couldn't get over the fact that they didn't play soccer. I did know people that worked at Equity and Law but blowed if I can remember their names - I think Micky Bowler was one. Do you think Rocky's taking the whatsit about the Hayes v Wycombe final? My Dad was there but it was 13 years before I was born.
Hi Loaksey, I knew Mick Bowler very well. We used to play in the Office football team together. I narrowly escaped going to the Grammar School. I was the only one at our school to pass for the Grammar and refused to go because they didn't play football and I hated rugby (and also a lot of my friends passed for the Tech). One of the teachers tried to persuade me on the basis they had a choir there. Anyway to cut a long story short they reluctantly got me transferred to the Tech, opposite the Rye, and I never once regretted it. It was from there that I was selected to play for Wycombe & District schoolboys. Some very nice girls in the art school, the neighbouring girl's college and the nearby Convent . Fantastic time. I'll stop there; beginning to reminisce here (not healthy at my age) .
Well, well. I was the only one to pass at our school, but did not have the balls to say no. Mick Bowler was a great footballer - I played with him many times but not in your office team!
Would that have been for Naphill Loaksey? Played against him when he was playing for them. Good right winger. I used to play inside right or inside left, sometimes centre forward.
Can't remember. I'll have to rack my brains. I can't even remember the score of that game which was at Naphill. For the first year of my first marriage I lived in rented accommodation not far from there on Downley Common before buying one of the new houses the other side of the common (Downley Heights I think it as called, Willoughbys Walk). I think it might have been our office team before Mick played for us. We played under the name of St John's.
Wern't St Johns a Sunday league team? I'm sure some of them played for Naphill as well. I'm watching or rather drooling over Arsenal v Barca. I thought Real Madrid were the best team I ever saw but Barca are better. Arsenal will do well to keep them to 1-0 - let's hope I'm a rotten forecaster. The referee looks better than anything we've got in the Premier league.
Crikey Loakesey, I used to play for them and I can't remember, I was pretty sure we played on Saturdays but I did play on Sundays for someone. Maybe we were in 2 leagues at different times. I can remember playing for a team called West End United and also I made an appearance for Highfield Athletic and scored the winning goal against Downley. I think it was West End United I was playing for when I scored the winning goal from the penalty spot against top of the league side East End United ( I think we were close to the bottom of the league at the time). My best memory (other than 2 goals at Loakes Park) was when we had to play with 10 men (goaly didn't turn up) in a cup game against a team we had no chance of beating even with a full team but I had a field day in the mud and scored 5 goals in a amazing 8-1 turnover. My career was cut short when I injured my back in a sliding tackle and stupidly repeated it in the next 2 Saturday matches and finished it off at squash. I made a comeback at 40odd when the St John's team from the 60s played the current team at Bisham Abbey. For the first half an hour we gave the youngsters the run a round without actually scoring but then we got swamped 5-0. Didn't like the astro turf; didn't suit my sliding tackles at all and by the end you could see the bone where it had burnt my skin away. Wouldn't mind playing in a Pensioners League now. Sorry
You wouldn't get away with a sliding tackle these days. I well remember Highfield Athletic, West End, Richardson Rovers, Castlefield and Downley. They had a very good team but then folded and a couple of them came to play for us. I played against Highfield when they had a tricky left winger - Terry somebody - and I was right back. I think I did all right against him. I played for Risborough Town when Jim Truett was player coach there but I really wasn't good enough and he dropped me a couple of weeks before they played Wycombe in the B & B Senior Cup. I'm not sorry he did drop me - it would have been embarrassing. This stuff must be riveting for anyone else looking in!
Absolutely. Still at least it isn't stooping to the depths of the General Forum. I remember Richardson Rovers. I think they were a strong side but I can't remember any specific games. I do remember going to Castlefield and beating them, cracked my ribs in the process and drove myself to hospital after the game. The Truett brothers Jim and Geoff were both in the Wycombe half back line. I reckon we must have played against each other at some stage.
Is she something else Rocky? http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...sten-to-Amanda?p=160951&viewfull=1#post160951 I'm having thoughts I shouldn't have. How can we have a beauty like that on our Forums?
