So what? Two teams get automatic promotion, not one. It's third we need to pull clear of. And West Ham are that team.
Yes, it's not a "controllable" but I will always want third to lose. I am sure that I would get over the disappointment of not winning the league pretty quickly provided we go up. But because this season is so different from last, I would hope we would win it.
Sod all that crap we should finish the season as Champions straight up. Not by results going our way not by finishing second with a whimper. Yes I would be happy to finish 2nd who wouldn't? But isn't it about time we went up as Champions on merit on class on form its only what us as fans and Markus and Nicola truely deserve! Not having a go mate just striving for the best and what we as long suffering (past few years) SOUTHAMPTON fans deserve!
And we can do that by beating Reading at St Marys. If they're the only side realistically capable of taking 1st place off of us come April 13th, then a victory for us would basically wrap up the title. On the other hand, if it's West Ham who are closest to us, then beating Reading is just another win on the journey to automatic promotion. And moreover, us slipping up against Reading - which could easily happen - would allow West Ham to take full advantage, should they be within touching distance. Keep West Ham away from us.
Surely it can only be a good thing if they both take points off each other, so by that logic a draw would be the best result for us. Just as long as we beat Blackpool....
Fair point buddy I understand that totally!. It's always about if and but though don't you think? Yes I agree that if it was a 2 team shootout as to who is champions I wouldn't take it? Yes of course I would but I don't want to finish 2nd this year to anyone. We don't deserve that, However same could be said about Huddersfield not winning the playoffs last year, I just want us to grab the bull by the horns and show everyone Southampton F.C are back! West Ham 1-1 Reading is just dandy lol
Draw. 2 points are dished out for a draw, 3 for a win (as some of you may know ) so it makes sense to want a draw
0-0, plus a Saints win would be the best result, but that sounds a little moribund, so what about this....? Nil-Nil. Allardyce is sent to the stands. More slip-ups that a crate of bananas on an escalator. More red cards than a Soviet Christmas. Both teams give such a bad performance that they collectively begin to doubt thier abilities... The football is so awful that the Football League Show hold a seance to bring back Jeremy Beadle just so he can put comedy noises to the action. Meanwhile Saints win 5-0. La-la gets a Hat-trick, including a kick so audacious that brings to mind the late Bruce Lee. Sharp sets up a 40 yard pass for Lambert to volley into the back corner with such force that the game is stopped for five minutes whilst an emergency team from the WI are called in to stitch the netting back together. In the final act of the game Saints put together a 67-pass move, wherein Guly discovers his innate talent for teleportation, Schneiderlin breaks the laws of Quantum Physics and manages to be in two places at the same time and the Ghost of Marcus Liebherr returns from that Happy Football Pitch in the sky with John the Physiotherpaist (nee John the Baptist) in tow so that Tadanari Lee and Danny Seabourne can get in on the action. On the basis of this performance, the Prime Minister summons the committee for the Oxford English Dictionary and locks them in a room, telling them that they cannot come out until they have come up thirty new superlatives. After three minutes of heated discussion, they return with 86 instead. Adkins begrudgingly takes up the England job on a part-time basis, provided that the FA allow him to continue his one true love: managing Southampton. His tenure in this post is so successful that Hollywood remakes Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, using pretty much the same plot as the original save for two vital differences. Firstly, it's called Nigel and Nicola's Excellent Adventure and secondly it's a documentary. ...oh, and whilst your up, I'll have the moon-on-a-stick too?
Absolutely brilliant SaintJabie! As long as one of the new superlatives covers 'playing the Southampton way' we'll be alright!
New words: Nigelacious....answering a question using many words without imparting any information. Superrickidacious...the audacious ability to score a goal whilst being held down by 5 defenders
West ham cannot go up this season, I went to the away game, any team I visited in that season they have never then gone up, still not broken in 11 years, west ham were top at the time of our game and then their bad run started
As always, Nigel will send out a team to win the game of football regardless of the earlier scores today. But from a supporters viewpoint, should Saints fail to gain points, I guess a draw at the Boleyn ground would be for the best as it would leave us still in control of the top spot and able to afford another slip-up somewhere in the run in. I really want us to win the Championship this time as, to the best of my knowledge, Saints previous promotions have been from 2nd place. We have been the best team throughout the season and deserve to take the honours.
