I was in Ashby-de-la-Zouch a few weeks back and we went in to WH Smiths. My daughter chose some colouring books with her Christmas money. The cashier refused to take her Scottish £10, “can’t take these”. “I’m Scottish too” she said in a broad midlands accent. So I left the stuff my wee one had picked, try explaining that to a 4 year old, she was in tears. Ended up, the assistant hadn’t given me my Scottish note back, another assistant found us in the street 5 minutes later, I hadn’t realised I was tgat angry. Now if you get a self service till, the machines accept Scottish notes, so what’s the difference??
The last time I was in Hong Kong the hotel I was staying in had a facility, as most do, to change money into local currency. On the board which gave the rates, it gave English and Scottish currency separately, and you got less money for the Scottish currency.
