Fair point for match days, next time it is windy, raining, cold, or even a slight breeze on a hot August day, we should stay at home and not make the trip to Priestfield and I should of told my boss to shove his job but I never was the clever one <laugh>

I once saw a black woman travelling on a train without a ticket on a train without a ticket complaining that the ticket inspector was only fining her because she was black. Sounds a bit like that to me.

gills, oxon - another good point in a way, leaving individual names out of the conversation and just discussing people's own personal experiences...what about all the fans that give their free time to help volunteer clear the pitch.

Scally is a lot of things, but I'd be verrry surprised if he suddenly turned out to be a racist, despite the catalogue of successful black players at Gillingham since he took over as chairman. Far more than before he was chairman (although that would be partly due to football as a whole being less racist in modern times).

Trying to frustrate him out of the club... well that's not beyond the realms of possibilitity. McCammon was (ultimately) a terrible signing and a financial liability... perhaps not impossible that the Gillingham bosses tried to get rid of him. But not for racist reasons.

is the reason weston was an underachiever over the last couple a three years down to the said incident ???

can't see why the club would jeopardize it's well being over one man and not think of the consequences in the longterm of gillingham fc !

no matter what was or wasn't with this issue...can't help but think with the john terry case imminent, that it will have some sort of bearing on our case...and not for the better !!!

I agree, he was terrible and if he was injured and I no longer wanted him I would refuse to pay for the best health care and ops. think the whole trial is a joke, there is no racism hes just a useless striker with a lazy bad attitude.

To be honest I don't see McCammon being able to get anything from this tribunal. The fact he is claiming for unfair dismissal is laughable to say the least. He saw out most of his contract being the highest paid player at the club and is whinging because he had it paid up early. It was obvious even when Stimson was still boss that he didn't want to be at the club for longer as he joined Bradford on loan. The fact that Bradford turned down the chance to extend his loan for a second time proved that either his attitude or ability wasn't good enough for our level. Also the fact that he has been unable to join a club in the football league since us also makes the point of him being a poor player even more relevant. His attitude is terrible with most of the managers he has played under and does not deserve to be a professional footballer. THE END

    Rant over <laugh>

Can I also point out that to the best of my knowledge, McCammon drove a pimped up Range Rover so it seems quite reasonable that he could be expected to get to work.

Yeah I believe you are right, remember seeing his car, proper cool, sort of car you would imagine a rapper to drive. But also more to the point a car which has good grip so is good to drive in the bad weather conditions.

He should have had a Toyota Hilux - Top Gear used one in their Polar special ( I believe there was quite a bit of snow involved )

I suppose he would be afraid that it might end up looking like a different Hilux

I guess if I was a professional athlete I could walk four miles regardless of the British conditions. No hang on a second, my mistake, I guess even if I was not a professional athlete and in reasonable health I could walk four miles regardless.

Shame really because if I'd had the phone call, I could have diverted my own 60 mile journey to work to assist in any short trips to Priestfield. Erm...ok, maybe I would not have, my response would have been the same for anyone...get off your lazy arse and get yourself into work we should not even be having the discussion.

Now Big Mac has fallen off 'The Gravy Train' he will have to adjust to life in the real world,
where respect is not a right and has to be earned.

"It was a phenomenal deal," he said. "It was a deal that most players would have taken."

But he disputed claims that the "trade off" was that if Gillingham remained in League Two during contract terms, his salary would be cut by 15%.

Mr McCammon said: "There was absolutely no way I would have agreed to that. That wasn't making sense to me."

    ..........

but the phenomenal deal did make sense then?

So let me get this right, we acknowledge something as a 'PHENOMENAL' deal but we would not have agreed to a 15% cut on that 'PHENOMENAL' deal at the time!

    Adjective:
    Very remarkable; extraordinary.

    ...........

I tell you something that was remarkable and phenomenal is I also made it to work that day for nothing like a phenomenal wage packet with even the 15% taken off.

Although I will accept if an agreement (-15%) can NOT be proven to be in a contract or in some form of writing, it could be grounds for grievance and was that process followed at the time?

Hopefully this whole sorry incident will be finished with today and we'll all be able to move on, although I'm not sure if they'll reach a verdict.

Yeah, even after the cut I don't think £2125 a week is all that bad a deal to be honest, especially for a player who has only broken into double figures once in his career. Perhaps a white player is going to sue the club for offering a black player more money than him? All of us know that racism is a vile thing that has no place on or off the pitch, and I will honestly feel sick if the club is guilty of treating McCammon differently due his skin colour. Slightly different slant but Simon King was the player flown to Dubai right? Barry Fuller and Adam Birchall weren't flown out there for their injuries so I don't see how you can link that to racism? I don't agree with McCammon having to wait for NHS help whilst under contract though, but it is a kick in the teeth to be firing staff at Priestfield to give a player that is ultimately unwanted first class expensive treatment.

As you say Gemini I hope the whole debacle is laid to rest or at least is all out in the open, decisions and verdicts aren't going to be made tomorrow but hopefully they will be sooner rather than later.
