Thinking it deserves it's own thread?

Up until around end of January we were mostly a joy to watch. Energy, fight, edge, power, pressing, pace. We were typically 1st to the 2nd ball. Most every time we broke we looked a real threat. Playoffs looked near certain, with autos a realistic possibility.

Then things changed, roughly from Feb onwards. The attributes above disappeared.

Why,? What changed?

not fully sure but selles was massively lambasted for us crawling over the line to survival
but we have actually got less points in our last 12 under serj, even if we beat norwich than our last 12 under selles and for me that is shocking

The Championship has a long, tiring season that needs a top quality squad; as ever, our best eleven gives anyone a game - the problem is, we can't keep our best eleven on the pitch for ninety minutes and for the fortysix games of the season, we don't have the squad depth to replace key players when they're out of form/carrying knocks/injured. Because of the lack of squad depth we bring key players back too early from injury, we play them with niggles etc

At the start of the season, with all the hurdles we faced I think all of us would have taken where we are now - it's been a good season, one that with a bit of luck injury wise could have been better, I'll take it!

Just how ****ing crap have our jan signings been

Collyer played about 2 hours of football
koumas looked like a slightly better akintola but without the aura
Less said about the others the better

I get why Acun would sack Sergei, but unless you gave a Steve Bruce type appointment coming in, I have no idea who it’d be, or why it’d happen.
 
As recently as Coventry we were a joy to watch and to an extent shef u til the sending off, there's an element to it of us being found out, first half of the season playing teams the first time it was new and we were hard to play against, now teams just sit deep wait for us to lose the ball with a hoof and dominate us on the break or straight through our semi vacant centre mid. Also an element to it where our set up is better suited to playing the better teams who want to get at us, like Derby & Wrexham - 2 of our last 3 wins. Think back on this horror run in and we've barely put a foot wrong against teh stronger teams, we're just not suited to dominating and beating the ****e like Oxford, Charlton, WBA etc.

McNair has been fine, Yu was alright until he predictably got crocked but the others were just what we could scrape together with the embargo in place.

Despite the embargo and injuries, the team should have had enough to win more games than we have in the second half of the season.

For me the manager hasnt been good enough to win winnable games. he's got it wrong in many and looked out of his depth in others this year. Some would say he's got credit in the bank due to an amazing start to the season... but for me the drop off has been so, so bad that there's a debate for him to lose his job over it. Whether Acun feels the same way is another thing.

Whatever it is I'm worried about next season already. The last few games have been a painful reminder of some **** recent seasons under Acun's watch. Won't be any basket case Wednesday or Leicester type sides next season either. Looking forward to 2.30 next Saturday tbh and taking a break.
 
Think its fairly simple what's gone wrong, our depth of quality isn't there, our midfield has been interrupted time after time through injuries and we've lost momentum as a result. Serj absolutely deserves a second season at least, thats been half the problem if not more, constantly swapping managers/ coaches. Let's look at who's been missing for large chunks

Giles - when he was in terrific form
Ajayi - after producing a m.o.m performance against Coventry, then African nations although his current form wish he'd stayed there.
Hughes
Lundstrum
Amir
Crooks - still playing with injury and needs an op season end
Millar
Belloumi
McBeasty
Gelhardt - again when in terrific form
Yu
Slater - when playing the best he has for us
And thats not mentioning the bit part players

Ive just seen David Akintoldya sat with a big fat cigar and brandy laughing his head off. Read into that what you will.
